Minivera Josephine Burris

Minivera Josephine Burris passed away January 28, 2007.to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, B.F. Burris. She was born August 30, 1917, to Joseph and Nellie Weber in Portland, Maine. During World War II she proudly served her country in the United States Army as a W.A.A.C. until she married B.F. Burris on June 6, 1945 in Roswell, New Mexico. She is survived by sons David and wife Darlene Burris of Huntsville, Texas, and George Burris of Las Vegas, Nevada. Three grandsons; Dustin Burris and wife Tracy of Tomball, Texas, Damon Burris and wife Amanda of Huntsville, Texas and Donald Burris of Richmond, Texas; and two great granddaughters, Sarah Cato of Tomball, Texas and Lillie Kate Burris of Huntsville, Texas. Minivera moved to Huntsville in 1984 to be near her family, and became a member of the University Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Burris volunteered for many years at elementary school libraries her grandsons were attending. After her grandsons moved on, she continued to volunteer at Sam Houston Elementary School library, where she was affectionately known as “Grandma Burris”, until she was forced to retire due to her health. She truly touched many children’s lives in Huntsville. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone at Ella Smither Geriatric Center for all the caring and compassion that was shown to our mother over the last 3 ½ years. You were wonderful. We would also like to express our thanks to the staff at Huntsville Memorial Hospital, especially the staff on 3-East for the excellent care she received while a patient at the hospital. In addition, our sincere thanks to Dr. David Knuth, Dr. Charles Monday, and Dr. Lawrence Wells during her last weeks of life. A celebration of life will be at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park in New Braunfels, Texas Friday February 2, 2007 at 3 PM under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
