Millicent Jean(Penny) Easley

Millicent Jean (Penny) Easley, 92, of Huntsville, Texas passed from this world on January 15, 2016 for a far greater place in heaven. She was born on September 2, 1923 in Newark, New Jersey to Arthur McKinley Sonnekalb and Elizabeth Maddams Sonnekalb. Penny’s entire childhood was spent in New Jersey. She attended Maplewood High School, where she was a debate champion, which led to her enrolling in Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. She graduated in 1945 with a degree in Psychology. Following graduation, IBM hired her as a systems engineer. Over a few brief years and in several local offices, she built a strong reputation for successfully installing first-time users of computers. Later she decided to retire from the business to be a full time stay at home mother. Penny thoroughly enjoyed days as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed baking brownies for family and friends. She taught special education in Biloxi, MS, served as part-time secretary at Elkins Lake Baptist Church, moderator for the Presbyterian Connection (college program), and volunteered for almost 20 years with Huntsville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Penny is survived by her beloved husband Grady Easley; son Stephen Hemperly and wife Elaine; son Robert Hemperly; daughter Deborah Caffey and husband Edward; daughter Cynthia Lillard and husband Bill; son David Hemperly and wife Julie; son Steve Easley and wife Shelly; son Russell Easley; and son Greg Bryant and husband James; grandchildren Morgan, Cameron, Christie (Jeff), Diane, Courtney(Seth), Allison(Taylor), Jenny, Rachel, Hannah, Andrew, Davis, Stephen, and Stephany; great-grandchildren Justin, Luke, Jack, Bennett, Grayson, Caroline, and Jackson. She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Elizabeth Sonnekalb; first husband Major Robert Hemperly, DDS; and grandson Bobby Lillard. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Penny to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston or The Heifer Project. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville in Huntsville, Texas. A reception will follow the service at the church.
