Maudie Boyd

Maudie Gerald Boyd September 13, 1923 – December 2, 2009 Maudie Gerald Boyd of Huntsville, Texas passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 after a sudden illness. Maudie was born on September 13, 1923 to William Howard Gerald and Erie McDonald Gerald in Kirbyville Texas. She graduated from Kirbyville High School as class Valedictorian. Maudie attended Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville Texas earning undergraduate and graduate degrees. While attending Sam Houston she met her future husband Edward Boyd. At the conclusion of World War II they married in Kirbyville Texas on December 22, 1945. They were blessed with fifty-five years together before Ed’s death in 2000. Ed’s degree in music took them to Carlisle High School and Katy High School as band director. In 1951 they moved back to Huntsville where Ed was named band director at Sam Houston State Teachers College. During this time Maudie was busy raising their two sons Bruce and Brian. Maudie later joined her husband in operating a State Farm Insurance Agency until their retirement in 1989. Maudie was loved and adored by her family. She was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Nanny. Nanny always made coming home for a visit a special time with good food, fun games and loving comfort. Her great-grandchildren will miss the bear hunts in the woods, picking up sticks, and sitting on the kitchen cabinet while she prepared breakfast. Her grandchildren considered her a role model and spent many hours talking and laughing with her. She was very involved in their lives attending all of their school, church and sporting functions. She always encouraged and loved them in everything they did. Each grandchild was treated to a special week alone with Nanny and Granddaddy each summer. Her family most appreciated her faithful walk with Christ. There was never a time that they did not see Jesus Christ reflected in her life through her actions and words. Maudie loved her church family at First Baptist Church in Huntsville. Over the years she served in many capacities including Junior High Girls Sunday School teacher and most recently on the church’s prison ministry “first contact”. Maudie was proceeded in death by husband, Edward E. Boyd of Huntsville, Texas; parents William Howard Gerald and Erie McDonald Gerald of Kirbyville, Texas; sister Elma Gerald Foley; brothers William Gerald, Samuel Gerald, Donald Gerald and Robert Gerald. Maudie is survived by sons Bruce Boyd and wife LaJuan of College Station, Texas, Brian Boyd and wife Becky of Waco, Texas; grandchildren Sharon Boyd Melton and husband Marty, Amanda Boyd Gallagher and husband Victor, Pamela Boyd Bryan and husband Joel, Dustin Boyd and wife Amanda, and Lee Boyd and wife Kristy; great-grandchildren Boyd Melton, Brock Melton, Bennett Melton, Price Boyd, Hayes Boyd, William Bryan, Wyatt Bryan and Sage Boyd and numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones and good friends. Services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009, 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas with Rev. Carroll Williams officiating. Interment will be at Brooke Cemetery in Huntsville. Family received friends on Friday, December 4, 2009, 5:00-7:00 pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are Dustin Boyd, Lee Boyd, Marty Melton, Victor Gallagher, Joel Bryan and Justin Boyd.
