Mary Elizabeth Marshall

Mary Elizabeth Nowak Marshall Mary Elizabeth Nowak Marshall, 79, of New Waverly went to be with the Lord on April 7, 2011. She was born in Houston, Texas on February16, 1932. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Clement Edwin Marshall, parents Stanley and Lena Nowak, sister Betty Dorsz, father and mother-in-law Ignatz and Hedwig (Virgie) Marshall, and son-in-law Danny (Sug) Slott. Mary is survived by her daughters Pat Slott and Debbie Halter, son and daughter-in-law Donald and Linda Marshall, brother-in-laws Daniel and Joe Marshall, numerous grandchildren, great grand children, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mary began her career at Stewart and Stevenson, where she worked for 25 years moving into management before retiring. Mary then followed her dream of owning her own gift shop, Â“Dis & DatÂ”, which she ran for 7 years before attempting retirement again. She began a third career at Sam Houston State University in the Biology Department where she worked for anther 10 years, before permanently retiring. Mary and Clem enjoyed traveling everywhere, all over the continental United States, Hawaii, Europe (especially Poland). She specially enjoyed little side trips to Louisiana with friends and family and looked forward to family gatherings. Mary was devoted to her family, church and community. She was a member of St. JosephÂ’s Parish Council, St. JosephÂ’s Choir, Knight of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, The Alter Society, and regularly served as a Eucharistic minister and lecturer. Her time was valued as a member of the New Waverly City Council serving as Mayor pro tem. Other affiliations that Mary enjoyed were: The Polish Genealogical Society, and the Homemakers Club as well as being instrumental in raising funds for the New Waverly Public Library helping organize the BBQ cook off. If ever you needed a volunteer, Mary was willing, able and available having served on numerous committees. Mary lived in New Waverly for 48 years, providing a comfortable home with a beautiful yard that she so enjoyed working in. As the seasons changed so did her decorations that she so lovingly displayed. Everyone was welcome when coming to the MarshallÂ’s home. Many friends and family will always remember the good times they had at the gatherings hosted by Mary and Clem. Funeral services for Mrs. Marshall will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly with burial to follow at Shepard Hill Cemetery in New Waverly. She will lie in state at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas, Friday, April 8, 2011, 4:00-8:00 p.m. Family will receive friends Friday, April 8, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a prayer vigil and rosary to start at 7:00 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin Slott, Clifford Slott, Clint Slott, Charlie Wilkerson, Justin Halter, grandson-in-law Richard Jackson and devoted friend Louis Â“PreacherÂ” Falk. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Ella Smither Geriatric Center for their heartfelt care of our mother for almost 6 years. Their dedication and devotion has eased our pain during this long process. You have made a special place in our hearts. We can never thank you enough.
