Mary Louise Barnette

On January 12, 2024, Mary Louise Barnette peacefully passed away in her home in Anderson, TX at the age of 74. She was born in Jennings, La on September 1, 1949, to Harold and Marguerite Born. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Mary was a 1967 graduate from St. Michael High School in Crowley, Louisiana, a 1972 graduate from McNeese State University, with a B.S. in Medical Technology, and received her Texas Teacher Certificate from the University of Houston in 1995. Mary married James (Jim) Murray Barnette in 1971; they started their life together in Lake Charles, La, moving to Newport News, Va. while Jim was in the Army. After his discharge, they moved to Atlanta, Ga where their children Christopher, Andrew, and Michael were born, then to Chicago, Il and finally to Houston, TX. Mary worked as a Medical Technologist until the birth of Christopher when she transitioned to a full-time mother and housewife. In 1995, she began teaching Biology at Spring High School in Spring, Tx for 10 years. Her hobbies included sewing her own clothes and gardening. Wherever she lived, there were beautiful flowers and fruit trees blooming. After teaching she started learning to make quilts. She became a master at quilting, making a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. Mary’s other joy was her Catholic Faith where she coordinated the Bible Study and volunteered for the Quilt Show at St. Mary’s in Plantersville. Her greatest pleasure was reading stories to her grandchildren. Whenever they would visit, there was always time for one more story. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, brother Paul Born, and two sisters Jane Born and Rose Born. She is survived by her husband Jim, Sons Christopher and wife Keti of Allen, TX, Andrew and wife Danielle of Aurora, Il., Michael and wife Cati of McKinney, TX and six grandchildren Kara, Aleksandra, Gabriel, Seth, Jacob, and Abigail, and sisters Julia LeBlanc and husband Peter of Jennings, LA, Trudy Born of Haltom City, TX., Rita Theriot and husband Glenn of Roanoke, LA., and Martha Powell and husband Tom of Richmond, TX. Visitation and rosary will be on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 5:00 PM with the rosary starting at 6:30 PM. The Funeral Mass will be on January 23, 2024, at 10:30 AM with burial following Mass in the church cemetery. The Visitation, rosary, and Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary Catholic Church, 8227 County Rd. 200, Plantersville, TX.
