Lula Belle Freeman

Lula Belle Freeman Lula Belle Freeman died Sunday, October 27, 2013. She was born to Thomas Byrd McGraw and Nora Elizabeth Osburn McGraw in Walker County Texas on September 2, 1918. Her mother’s family, the Osburns, moved to Texas in 1870 and settled in the Possum Walk community southwest of Huntsville, Texas, where she was raised with her 10 brothers and sisters. In 1937 she moved to Houston and lived for 7 years with her sister, Ethel Chimene, and husband Jimmy, whom she loved dearly. In Houston she worked for Baker & Botts where a young business manager, J. H. Freeman, got her a blind date with his brother, George B. Freeman. G. B., as he was called, quickly figured out she was the one. They married during WW II and had three children: George Ralph Freeman; Richard Gary Freeman (wife Patsy); and Ronald Jay Freeman (wife Anne). She was predeceased by husband, G. B. and son, George Ralph. She is survived by sons Richard and Ronald and their wives, grandchildren (Becky Ross and husband John; Ricky Freeman and wife Kristi; Sarah Elisabeth Henton and husband Antonio; and Daniel Freeman); eleven great grandchildren (Rachel Ross, Jacob Ross, Sarah Belle Ross, Jonathan Ross, Zach Freeman, Grace Freeman, Hope Freeman, Zane Freeman, Joy Freeman, Beaux Bonvillian and Amari Henton); sister Doris Talbert; and countless nieces, nephews and friends. She was full of unconditional love and received it in return. The heart and soul of a large and loving family, she nurtured and guided us all. We express appreciation to all who returned her love, especially her niece, Vanessa Carr (and husband Mike) who gave her special love for many years and provided her the “daughter” she never had. The family will attend a burial service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, at Bath Community Cemetery southwest of Huntsville, Texas. Arrangements by Sam Houston Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 3, at 2 p.m. at Congregation Beth Messiah, 9001 West Airport Blvd, Houston, Texas 77071.
