Luana Beth Leftwich

Luana Beth Gardner Leftwich, 72 of Grangerland, Texas passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at her home. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, Luana was the daughter of the late Twila Gardner and Mac Gardner Sr. She was preceded in death by her brother Mac Gardner Jr. In school, Luana especially enjoyed French, English, History and Biology and graduated from high school in Newark, Delaware. She attended nursing school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, before marrying her first husband Edward Hawthorne III. They moved around the country extensively while raising their two daughters Suzie and Wendy and settled in Texas in 1989. Luana treasured her daughters and was always the first to volunteer as room mom, soccer mom, carpool driver and more. She handmade numerous costumes, banners, nightgowns and dresses for her girls as they grew up. Luana married her husband Clifford in 2007. Luana and Clifford enjoyed fishing, sightseeing, riding horses, travelling, and working in the yard. Crabbing, camping, and dancing were her favorite things to do together with Clifford. They loved and cherished each other very much. Fun loving and feisty, she was a woman who loved to laugh and was known as a giving soul at all times willing to help. Very active in her church (Faith Family Baptist Church in Kingwood) along with Clifford, Luana was a devoted follower of Christ her entire life and served in many ways including but not limited to: Sunday school teacher, Awanas leader, working in the church nursery and singing in the choir. Luana loved music and especially to sing. She sang in choir all through school and on into her adult life in every church she attended. Luana loved all animals, especially her cats and horses. From an early age she rescued stray and injured animals that she rehabilitated and found homes, usually her own. Luana loved to cook and bake - trying out new and adventurous recipes and foods. She especially loved to share what she had made with friends and family. Luana also enjoyed plants and gardening. She is survived by her husband Clifford Leftwich. She is the loving and devoted mother of two daughters: Suzie Hawthorne (Cory) of Hillsboro Oregon and Wendy Oliver (Jeff) of Ft. Worth Texas. She is the adored Grandmother of four grandchildren: Zoe, Brian, Kiley and Lincoln. In addition, she is survived by her Mother in Law, Jackie Leftwich, Step-son Jason Leftwich (Laurie) and Brother in Law, Howard Leftwich (Jeannie). Also surviving are her Sister in Law, Joanne Gardner, her niece Mary Francis Duncan, 3 nephews Joe Gardner, Michael Gardner and Mac Gardner. From her first marriage she is preceded in death by her Father in Law, Edward Hawthorne II, and her Brother in Law, George Hawthorne. She is survived by her mother in law Elsie Hawthorne, Sister in Law, Nancy Wilson (Gregg), Sister in Law, Daryl Hawthorne, Brother in Laws, Mike Hawthorne and Jeff Hawthorne (Linda), nephews Michael Wilson, Jeff Hawthorne and nieces Mary Beth Linnell, Virginia Wilson and Mindy Hawthorne. She will be dearly missed by her extended family and numerous friends. Visitation with the family will be held Friday, December 4, 2020 from 10-11am at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 4, 2020 at 11am at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with burial immediately following at Smith Memorial Park.
