Loyal Ann Bottoms

Loyal Ann Bottoms, 75, a precious daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this life to begin her new eternal adventure with God on November 23rd, 2010. She was surrounded by family and many loved ones. Loyal Ann was preceded in death by her dear and beloved husband, Presley Bottoms, and her father, Thomas J. Colburn. She is survived by her mother Janie McClain Colburn, and her brother, John William Colburn, of Houston, Texas. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Mike Edwards of Willis, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Don Cantrell of Houston, Texas; son, Craig Presley Bottoms of Orlando, Florida. She is survived by six grandchildren who she was deeply devoted to: Andrew, Brett, Paige, Callie, Chelsea and Austin. She is also survived by her nephew, John Colburn of Houston; great-niece, Lana Colburn, and great-nephew, Jacob Colburn. Loyal Ann was born on December 11, 1934 in Texas City, Texas. She graduated from Texas City High school in 1953. She enjoyed playing the French horn in the band and also was accomplished on the violin and piano. She was named Salutatorian and Football Queen of her senior class. After high school she married her childhood sweetheart. Presley was serving in the United States Marine Corps and they lived at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina the first years of their married life. They briefly lived in Houston before moving to Friendswood in 1964 to raise their family. Loyal Ann and Presley were founding members of the First United Methodist Church of Friendswood, Texas where they lived for 19 years. Loyal was very active in the church and also was director of the Head Start Day School in Alvin, Texas. In 1984 they moved to Panorama Village. They were members of First United Methodist Church of Conroe. Loyal was a member of the Beacon Sunday School class, Book & Bread Circle, and UMW. She was a Stephen’s Minister, leader and teacher. She chaired the Methodist Church Day School Board. Loyal was also involved in numerous ministries including Prayer Quilts, Metropolitan Day School Latch Key programs, Red Cross Disaster Shelter, and Family Promise. A Celebration of Loyal’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Conroe, 4308 West Davis Street (Highway 105 West.) There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Conroe, Family Promise Fund, at 4308 West Davis Street, Conroe, Texas 77304. The family would like to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation for the love, kindness and superior care provided by all at the Colonial Oaks Westchase Memory Care Facility in Houston, Texas.
