Leon Brown

Leon Brown, age 96, husband of Iris (Cooper) Brown, passed away peacefully Friday, June 11, 2021 in his home surrounded by family. He was born January 2, 1925 in Walker County, to Joe and Mary (Allen) Brown. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Brown, father Joe Brown, brothers Joseph Brown, Roger Brown, Ernest Brown, Earl Brown, Ray Brown and his sisters Viola Carter, Lily Brown, Eloise Allen and Lona Doughtie. He is survived by his brothers, Levi Brown and wife Ann Brown, Billy Mac Brown and wife Charlotte Brown, Glen Brown and his sister Mamie Rutledge. Leon is survived by his beloved wife, Iris Brown; daughter Sandy Brown Nichols and former husband Bill Nichols; his granddaughters Kelly Nichols Robinson and Kasey Nichols; his great granddaughter Cheyenne Robinson and her fiance Derek Dane along with his great grandson Chandler Robinson. Along with many more family and friends. Leon attended San Jacinto School as a young boy until he went home to help tend the farm. He spent many years learning about hard work, sacrifice and family. He was drafted into the United States Army to defend our country in WWII. Leon was a true patriot. The day he returned from the service he would meet the love of his life, Iris Cooper, they have shared 74 wonderful years together. Their only daughter, Sandy Brown Nichols was born on November 11, 1948 in Houston, Tx. He was a loving father full of grace and forgiveness. Leon attended welding school in Houston, Tx. Upon finishing welding school, he and his wife moved to Galveston, Tx. He worked as a welder in the shipyard. Eventually moving back to Houston, he would then begin his career at Southwest Fabricating and Welding for 44 years. During this time, he began his journey with the freemasonry bettering himself, his community and the world; he was a master mason and 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. After they retired, he and Iris moved back to their home in Huntsville. As mentioned before, hard work was in his blood. He and Iris started a cleaning business that would keep them busy for several years. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church for over 20 years. Leon truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He was happiest spending time with friends and family or outdoors. He spent many years in his garden, keeping the yard immaculate, raising sheep with his great grandkids and making a mean pot of coffee. He was a man of his word and led by example. He had a work ethic that was unmatched. He accepted Christ into his life at the age of 12 and continued to keep God as his cornerstone all throughout his life. He believed true security can only be found in the grace and mercy of God. Leon had a way of reaching people in an honest and gentle way. He was a proud man who provided for his family in more ways than one. He will forever be remembered as a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa and friend. He will be dearly missed by all of us. We look forward to the day we will meet again and rejoice with the Lord. Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 12noon to 1:00pm at Second Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas, with a funeral service following at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Farris Cemetery in Richards, Texas.
