Larry Wayne Goines

Larry Wayne Goines, 69, of Huntsville, Texas, passed away on May 26, 2016. He was born in Huntsville, Texas, January 8, 1947, and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1965. He attended Sam Houston State University. He was married to his beloved and devoted wife, Dianna May Goines, just shy of 50 years. He said marrying Dianna was the best decision he ever made. Mr. Goines was employed with the Texas Dept of Criminal Justice, Weisner - Huntsville, and retired from Huntsville High School as an auto tech teacher. He was proprietor of Goines Texaco for several years in the '70's and '80's. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Lee Goines. He is survived by his mother, Viola Goines of Huntsville, Texas; two brothers Oscar “Sonny” (Iris) Goines of New Braunfels, Texas and Donald (Denise) Goines of Murchison, Texas; wife Dianna Goines of Huntsville, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Gary Edward and Angela Goines, of The Woodlands, Texas; daughter Teresa Castillo, of La Porte, Texas. His two granddaughters, Rainey Nicole Goines (future son-in-law, Andrew Stern) and Serena Elise Castillo were the apple of his eye. He had a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as numerous loving friends. Serving as pallbearers are Phillip Burnett, Donnie Goines, Andrew Ben Wolverton, Steve Blanke, Richard Cowan, Andrew Stern, and Graciano "Chano" Esparza. He loved his country and served as a proud Marine in the Vietnam War, making two tours. Always a teacher at heart, several of his former students say he was their favorite teacher at Huntsville High School. In his younger years, he loved working on and racing his "Bomber" car. In his latter years, he enjoyed his garden and watching NASCAR. He loved his family and he loved the Lord. The family wishes to express their gratitude to friends and family for their faithful support the last few months. We are thankful for the care he received from the staff and doctors at Michael DeBakey VA Hospital and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice. Visitation will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas at 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 28th. The service will be held on Sunday, May 29th at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.
