Kenith Alvin Davis

Kenith Alvin Davis of Conroe, Texas passed away August 5, 2016 at 80 years of age. Kenith was born in Trinity County, Texas to J. C. and Ruth Estelle Davis. He grew up in Dodge and Riverside, Texas and attended high school in Huntsville, Texas. Kenith was preceded in death by his parents J. C. and Ruth Estelle Davis; brothers J. D. Davis, Albert Wayne Davis, J. C. Davis, and Jack Davis; and sisters Lavera U. Ballantine and Annie Ruth Ferraro. Kenith is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nelcene (Tomlin) Davis; daughters Sharon R. Culpepper and husband James “Jim”, Beverly A. Standley and husband Terry; sons Kenith D. Davis and wife Reta, Kevin S. Davis and wife Marsha; grandsons Christian A. Haich, Matthew A. Standley and wife Kirbie, and Brenton L. Davis; great-grandchildren Christian T. Haich, Collin A. Standley and Holly J. Standley; and sisters Betty Sue Akins, Nell A. Waltz and Elizabeth A. Hays and husband Richard. He is also survived by numerous family members. Kenith retired after 43 years of loyal service from Houston Belt and Terminal Railroad as a switchman. He was admired and known by his railroad friends as “The Rope.” Kenith served the community in many ways including his service as a member of the Army Reserves for 10 years, a Mason for 49 years, and an active member of Northside Baptist Church of Conroe, Texas. Kenith spent his life serving others and is well known and appreciated by many for his continuous acts of kindness and generosity. In earlier years, Kenith was fondly remembered by childhood friends by his nickname “Smokey.” Kenith loved spending time with family, hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park Drive, Huntsville, Texas 77340 on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Old Pioneer Cemetery. Pallbearers are Robert Wayne Tomlin, J.D. Davis, Paul Ballantine, James “Jim” Culpepper, Howard Dwayne McWhorter, Christian A. Haich, Matthew A. Standley, and Brenton L. Davis.
