A Beautiful Life Remembered! Katie Furby, age 89 passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024 at Live Oak Senior Center in Montgomery, Texas. Born on March 30, 1934 in Dover, Arkansas to Sherman R. Rylee and Jesse M. (Akers) Rylee. Katie leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Katie is survived by her children, Robert Glynn Furby (Sharon) of Montgomery, TX. and Michael W. Furby (Ann) of Northbrook, Il. She is also survived by her siblings, James W. Rylee (Maudene) of Yantis, TX; Charles E. Rylee (Barbara) of Elkhart, TX; and her sister Barbara Ann (Rylee) Povsha of Montgomery TX. Katie was the loving grandmother of Glynn Richard Furby (Jessica), Matthew M. Furby and Catherine (Katie) M. Furby and great grandmother to Thomas Richard Furby. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jennie Rae Furby, and her husband of 63 years, Herbert Henry Furby, II. Katie was a faithful, kind, and loving Christian to all she met. As a military spouse, her world travels enriched her love of God and others. Retiring in Niceville, FL., Katie and Herb made many life-long friends. Katie found joy in volunteering at her church and the local theater. In her youth, Katie was a marksman and gamesman, winning trophies in classic skeet and trap shooting. She was an avid golfer, winning several women’s tournaments and scoring three hole-in-ones in her golf career. One of Kathie’s greatest loves was being a grandma. Her grandchildren loved to stay with her and they cherish memories of her good cooking, days at the beach, and her sage advise that there was always room for ice cream. Her retirement community knew her a “the giver of the best hugs”, and she greeted all with joy and smiles.
