Katherine “Katie” Linn Lopez It is with great sadness that the family of Katie Lopez announces her passing. On the 7th of November 2024, surrounded by her husband and children, Katie left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. On April 7th of 1981, a vibrant and loving soul entered this world by the name of Katherine “Katie” Linn Brown in Kansas City, Missouri. Katie was raised by her parents, Angie and step-father Paul Garrett, along with her father Jeff Brown. Katie grew up in Magnolia, Texas and graduated from Magnolia High School in May of 1999. While in high school, Katie met her future husband, John Lopez, at the Montgomery County Fair. They were married in Conroe, Texas on April 27th of 2002. Shortly after being married, Katie moved to North Carolina where she and John would spend the next four years. While in North Carolina, Katie began working with people to help them reach their health and weight loss goals. During these years, Katie touched so many lives with the love and support she poured into changing their lives for the better. Katie returned to Texas when she moved to a suburb north of Houston, Spring, Texas. In Spring, Katie and John started their family and began raising three amazing children. Katie was born to be a mother. The patience, love and understanding she poured into her family is evident today. While raising her children and continuing to help others live healthier lives, Katie began pursuing her teaching certificate. Becoming a Special Education Teacher was something Katie never imagined herself doing but it quickly became her passion. Katie taught at Anderson Elementary for six years before moving to Willis, Texas in 2021. Before relocating to Willis, Katie was diagnosed with stage 3B colon cancer; nevertheless, Katie continued teaching in Willis ISD. Katie loved crafting, family movie nights, Sunday football with family (Go Chiefs & Texans), binge watching a new series or reading a good book by the pool. The holidays were her absolute favorite time of the year, especially Christmas, because it brought her true joy seeing all of the children together. As her family grew, so did Katie’s love for all of her “babies.” Katie was always eager to hold and spoil every baby that was welcomed into the family. Katie’s battle with cancer showed everyone her unwavering strength. Despite many trials and challenges along the way she remained graceful and lived each day to the fullest. Anyone that met Katie on her journey couldn’t believe she was battling cancer. Katie continued to attend her daughter’s softball games, take trips with her oldest son and family, attend her youngest son’s football games, play with her nieces and nephews, and held onto her passion of teaching. Even on her hardest days, Katie greeted others with a smile and asked them how they were doing. Katie dedicated so much of herself to helping others and her family. Katie was the bright light of any room she entered or any life she touched. So many lives are forever changed because they had the opportunity to be touched by Katie. Remaining to cherish Katie’s memory includes her husband, John Lopez, children; Ethan, Makayla and Jaxsen Lopez, parents; Angie and Paul Garrett, Jeff Brown; brother, Zack Garrett; sisters; Lauren Brown and spouse Trevor Bloom, Kyle Brown; Father-in-law, Sabino Lopez; sister-in-laws, Melinda Lopez and spouse Armando Delgado, Mandy Smith and spouse Austin Smith, seven nieces, six nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. Katie is preceded in death by her grandfather Charlie Andersen, grandmother Helen Wilson, and her mother-in-law Mary Lou Lopez. A memorial service will be held on November 13, 2024, with visitation from 5:00pm - 6:30pm, Memorial service from 6:30pm-7:30pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home located at 10129 FM 1097, Willis, TX 77318.
