J.T. McBride

J.T. McBride, 88, of Huntsville, TX passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2013. Mr. McBride was born on February 7, 1925 in Groveton, Texas to Jim Tom McBride, Sr. and Jewell Bennett McBride. He is survived in death by his wife of 66 years Bobbie Lea Hutson McBride; sister Alice Evelyn Standley of Lufkin, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Carey and Bonnie McBride of Brady, Texas; daughter Sharon Sue McBride of Huntsville, Texas; grandchildren Sabrina Lumpkin and husband Kevin, Cheri Coleman and husband Craig, Jondan McBride and wife Desiree, Jason McBride and wife Vanessa, Camille Cooper and Brandon Cooper; great grand children Lacy Oliver and husband Dylan, Cody Weisinger, Dylan Coleman, Dalton Coleman, Zachary Lumpkin, Aaron Grella and Owen Grella; and great great grandson Braxton Oliver. He is preceded in death by his son Tommy Harold McBride, parents, sisters Jimmie Pauline McBride Dwire and Aubrey Jewel Dene; brothers James Roland "Bill", Burl Sanford "Pete", Julius Edward "Bud", Bennett and Benford McBride. J.T. was a veteran of World War II where he served in flight maintenance in the United States Air Force. He was retired from Walker County, Texas where he served as Constable of Precinct 3 for over 28 years. Prior to that he was retired from the Texas Department of Corrections where he served as maintenance superintendent. He also served as a game warden for the Texas Department of Wildlife, owned his own private electrical company and worked for Lufkin Foundry & Machine Company. He started playing the fiddle when he was 9 years old and played for the rest of his life, being a member of the ‘Texas Old Time Fiddler’s Association’ and played at numerous contests and events, and then taught music to his two sons and several grandchildren. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Texas Peace Officer’s Association and a long time member of the church of Christ. J.T.’s main focus in life was family, friends and his belief in God. He was also an active hunter, fisherman and gardener. Funeral services for Mr. McBride will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Huntsville, Texas. Internment will follow at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin, Texas for graveside service. Mr. McBride will lie in state Monday, February 11, 2013, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu/addition of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of J.T. McBride to the American Heart Association.
