Joseph Paul Schwander III

Joseph Paul Schwander III, 86, of Huntsville, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016. Paul was born July 19, 1929 in Houston, Texas to Joseph Paul Jr. and Vera Maude Key Schwander. Paul grew up in Webster, Texas and graduated from Webster High School in 1947. He attended Sam Houston State Teacher’s College where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education in 1951. Paul married Billie Jean Cox on November 25, 1955 at 1st Methodist Church in Pasadena, Texas. They had one son, Joseph Paul Schwander IV. Paul was in sales for most of his working career. After 27 years with Hoffman LaRoche, he retired as National Sales Trainer for the Animal Health and Nutrition division. Paul is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Schwander; son Paul Schwander of Dayton, Texas,; granddaughter Jaclynn Paige Schwander of Dayton, Texas. Paul is also survived by a sister, Joann Pierce of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law and husband Joan and James Baker of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother-in-law Roy Kenneth Cox of Livingston, Texas and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Paul is preceded in death by his parents. Paul had many accomplishments in his career that he was proud of. Among the numerous national sales awards, he was also active in various professional organizations. He served the board and as President of the Texas Allied Turkey association and board and President of the Texas Poultry Federation. Upon retirement, Paul was also active in the Diamond Head and Hilltop Lakes Home owners association serving on the board of each. Paul was an active member of the Huntsville Lion’s Club, Bearkat partners and a life member of the Sam Houston State University Alumni Association. Paul and Jean attended First Methodist Church in Huntsville, Texas where he had been very active in his Sunday school class. In life, Paul felt like love and loyalty was the key. Whether friend, family, customer, co-workers or competitor, you might not like or agree with what he had to say, but his opinion was always respected. Paul was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 26th 6:00-8:00 pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, Texas. Services for Paul will be held Wednesday, January 27th, 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, Huntsville, Texas.
