Joseph Marion Hunter

Joseph Marion Hunter, born Nov 20, 1938 in Rolla Missouri passed at his home in New Waverly, Tx at the age of 77 on April 10th, 2016. When Joe was a young boy he moved to Texas and after graduating High School he joined the United States Air Force and served from May 2, 1957 thru May 2, 1961. Joe was also a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge in Linden, Tx. After retiring from TDCJ, Joe started a mowing service known as “Let Joe Mow” which after many years he had to give up due to his health. Joe and his wonderful wife Dorothy were married 21 years and shared numerous happy memories together with their children and grandkids. Joe’s favorite things he enjoyed in life were watching Nascar, Old Westerns, tractors, collecting coins and guns. He also enjoyed road trips with his wife to visit family and friends, always taking the back roads to appreciate the beauty of the countryside. But by far, Joes favorite pastime of was going to his grandkids sports games. With his wife Dorothy by his side, he traveled near and far and rarely missed a game. By far, the highlight of many years of sports, was watching his granddaughter Landry and her team win the State 2A Volleyball Championship in Nov 2015, one day before his 77th birthday. Joe & Dorothy had 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Joe is survived by his wife Dorothy, his brother Bobby Hunter and sisters, Donna Skinner and Betty McMahan. Daughters, Tina Berns, Debbie Bickmore, Cindy Smith and Kelly Crawford. Sons, Michael Waller & Duane Wagner. Grandchildren, Zachary Berns, Sarah Baker, Shane Bickmore, Amanda Bickmore, Jessica Bickmore, Shelby Wagner, Landry Wagner, Tucker Keating & Zoe Crawford. Great grandchildren, Everett Baker, Annabelle Baker, Benjamin Berns, Shaylynn Bickmore, Avery Bickmore and Jayden Smith. Joe’s family would like to thank St Joseph Hospice for all their care provided. A special thank you to all of the family members and many friends who have provided care, concern and prayers to Joe & his family. Joe was a wonderful man with a kind and generous heart and will be missed dearly, but always remembered. His memorial service is Friday, April 15th at 11:00 am at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church of Huntsville. Visitation is 10 am thru 11 am. Pot Luck to follow. In lieu of the usual remembrances, contributions in his name to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church or Donations to the Iola Athletic Booster Club in his name.
