Mr John Joseph Logan

John Joseph Logan, 81, adored husband, father, grandfather and friend - passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on the early morning of Wednesday, June 28, 2023. He was loved so very much. John was born on February 23, 1942. He was the only child born to Irene & Chick (Charles) Logan and grew up in New York City, while he spent idyllic summers in Cranberry Lake, New Jersey. He and his life-long best friend, Charles Iulo, were a charismatic band of brothers who grabbed life by the horns and laughed their way through the mischief that seemed to follow them through early adulthood. In the summer of his 23rd year, he found the love of his life, Lynn Kelting, and John easily fit into the large and fun-loving Kelting clan. They were married on May 6, 1967 and enjoyed nearly 60 wonderful years together. John was always known to be the life of the party, and could always make you smile with his quick wit and easy going nature. Just a year ago, on any typical day you'd find him puttering in his garage and taking care of the yard. He loved to work up a good sweat. He also loved to cool down with a cold beer. He always worked hard and made sure to have a little fun along the way. He lived life authentically and unapologetically, and many of his best quips are now considered politically incorrect. He was also quietly generous to numerous charities that touched his heart, selfless in sharing what he had and always offered a helping hand on whatever job needed to be done. He never boasted or bragged, and he was filled with seemingly endless fascinating (and funny) stories from his time in the State Police. He was a good man and a rock of a husband and father: solid, dependable, selfless, trustworthy, smart, kind and funny. And people loved him, but his family loved him most. John became New Jersey State Police Trooper in 1969, and subsequently became a Detective, specializing in organized crime. It was the most fascinating and fulfilling experience of his long career. He was pursued and recruited by Bell Laboratories (later known as AT&T/Lucent Technologies), and despite loving his role with NJ State Police - he accepted a Director of Security position that offered his family a better quality of life. A profound example of his willingness to sacrifice his wants for what he believed was best for his family. He was smart (and lucky) with money, always saved and invested, never lived above his means and always gave more than he got. He retired 26 years ago, at the age of 55 - and he and Lynn became avid travelers seeing the world in their golden years and toasting many a sunset with refreshing cocktail. It was a good earthly life, well lived and well loved. John is survived by his wife Lynn (Kelting) Logan; his only daughter, Tracy Ashe (Logan) Boulanger-Strong and her husband Mark D. Strong; his only son, William Joseph Logan and his fiancé Laura Przyborski; his 2 Grandchildren, Logan and Buzz Boulanger; his in-law siblings, Beth and John McCurdy, Susan and Rick Wyatt, Bob and Liz Kelting, Carol and Bob Stehlgens, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and close family friends that all have fond memories of him. In the end, he was supported by the Sacraments of his Catholic faith, his loving family drawn close to give comfort, and the many prayers from those that loved him. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville, TX on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Shriners Hospital, two of John's favorite charities. "Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come."
