Jean Alice Castleberry

Jean Alice Castleberry was born May 12, 1920, to Mary and Alfred Moseley. She was orphaned at age eight and with her two sisters and brother were taken in by relatives in Tennessee. She ultimately went to live with her mother's first cousin, Mabelle and husband Roy Bass in Springfield, Missouri. She married Marvin Castleberry, Jr., in 1938. She was preceded in death by sisters Ann and Mary, brother Jack and husband Marvin. She is survived by son Marvin Castleberry III and his wife Elizabeth of Lacey, Washington, granddaughter Stacy Laird and her husband Chris and great-granddaughter Sydney of Chattanooga, Tennessee, son Michael and his wife Joan of Montgomery, Texas, granddaughter Kristen of Houston, Texas, and grandson David of Spring, Texas. Jean resided in Springfield, Missouri, for 50 years, moved to Green Valley, Arizona, when Marvin retired and lived there for 25 years. Upon Marvin's death she moved to Conroe to be near family. She was active in the Methodist Church throughout her life serving as Sunday School Teacher and Liturgist. She served in leadership roles in the hospital auxiliary, several parent teacher organizations, Women's League of Voters, the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Green Valley Camera Club. A talented hobbyist, she sewed, did needle work, created Kachina dolls and stained glass art and was a prized winning photographer. She was a gourmet cook and took great joy in serving fancy dinners to friends and family. She produced, directed and performed in reading plays for seniors. Her last major project was building and decorating a doll house when she was 94. Jean was first and foremost a caring and loving Mother who insured her sons were encouraged and given every opportunity to pursue whatever goals they set. The family's thanks go to the wonderfully kind staffs of Elmcroft Assisted Living, Pathfinder Home Health Care and Heart to Heart Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 4308 West Davis Street, Conroe, at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 10. A reception will be held thereafter.
