Jane Alice Gaines Yates

Jane Alice Gaines Yates Janie Yates, 96, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 3, 2010. Janie was born on March 28, 1914, to Alec and Geneva Petree Gaines at Crabbs Prairie, Texas where she lived all of her life. Janie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert A. Yates, Sr. and sons William Jack Yates, Robert A. Yates, Jr., Charles Norman Yates, daughter Frances V. Knight and son-in-law Odell Knight. She is also preceded in death by parents and brothers John Lewis Gaines, Wayne Gaines, Burnis J. Gaines and W.A. Gaines. Janie is survived by her son Don E. Yates and wife Mary A., daughter Norma Hardy, and grandson Jackie Norman Yates, daughters-in-law Mary Etta Yates and Karen Yates. Janie had a special place in her heart for each of her grandchildren, Debbie Yates Skidmore, Robert E. Yates, Steve A. Yates, Donny Yates, Kerri Yates Averitt, Theresa Knight Rash, William Knight, Burkley Yates, Trenda Corner Coburn, Marchae Corner Wood, Tasha Hardy Greer and step children Dana Bunny McGrath, Gavin Bunny, Laura Maggard Vermillion and Michael Maggard. She had 23 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great- grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to longtime friend Willie Mae Bush, Lighthouse Hospice and her caregiver Rhonda Hoot. Janie had a great love for her family. She leaves a legacy of love and devotion as a wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and also cooking for anyone who wanted to sit and join the family. She also loved her Cook Springs Baptist Church family. Her love of God kept her planted and involved in the church from childhood, singing in the choir, being involved with her Sunday school class and the S.A.M. group. She kept a log in her Bible of her children and grandchildren as they were saved and baptized. Janie was a passionate and competitive 42 player. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center and the 42 tournaments, including the Charles Wilson sponsored and the City of Huntsville. She absolutely loved to win. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cook Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 1936 A State Highway 75 North, Huntsville, Texas 77320. Pallbearers will be grandsons Donny Yates, Jackie Yates, Steve Yates, Robert Yates, Burkley Yates, William Knight, Gavin Bunny and Michael Maggard. Services will be held at Cook Springs Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas, Saturday, November 6, 2010, 2:30 p.m., with burial to follow at McAdams Cemetery in Huntsville. Visitation will be held Friday, November 5, 2010, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville.
