Jacob Edwin Sherman

Jacob Edwin Sherman was born on October 11, 1941 in Camden, Texas to Jake and Zelly Mae Sherman of Corrigan, Texas. He went to be with the Lord when he passed away on July 6, 2017 at MD Anderson hospital in Houston, Texas. Jacob was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Zelly Mae Sherman of Corrigan, Texas, his sister Rebeca Sherman Mixson of Corrigan, Texas, and his mother & father in law, Yancy and Lorene Cockrell of Corrigan, Texas. Jacob is survived by his wife (of 52 years) Sandra Cockrell Sherman of Huntsville, Texas, his Son Scott Sherman & wife Dr. Kristin Daniels Sherman of Corrigan, Texas their son Stephen Sherman of Corrigan, Texas, daughter Jessica Sherman of Ft. Worth, Texas; Son Matthew Sherman and wife Ava of Nacogdoches, Texas and his daughter Samantha Sherman of Hewitt, Texas. Nephew Max Mixson of Arizona, Niece Maebeth Carrizel and husband Shane of Houston, Texas. Brother-in-law Jerry Cockrell of Corrigan, Texas Sister and Brother in law, Deborah and John Thomas of Kingwood, Texas. And many family and friends. Jacob was loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. Jacob graduated from Corrigan High School in 1960 and received a Bachelor Degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and a Masters’ Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He married Sandra Cockrell on August 22, 1965 and they both began their careers as educators in Vidor Texas. Jacob retired after 47 years in education. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Huntsville, TX, The Corrigan Masonic Lodge #1103 in Corrigan, TX and The Order of The Eastern Star Chapter #631 in Corrigan, TX. He was also a member of Phi Delta Kappan Chapter, Stephen F. Austin State University. He loved to travel and bird watch. One of his most memorial trips was to Panama and his bird watching experience. He always had his binoculars ready. He had many friends from his youth and throughout his life and enjoyed talking and visiting with them. Visitation and services will be held at First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas on Saturday, July 8, 2017. Visitation be at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Jason Bay and Rev. Royce Pennington. Burial will be at Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas at 5:00 p.m. and officiated by Corrigan Masonic Lodge #1103. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the scholarship fund at First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas.
