J C Davis Jr. J C Davis Jr., 84, of Iola, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Born in Dodge, Texas to Ruth and J C Davis Sr., he lived most of his life in Houston, Texas. J C was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Texas, A.F. & A.M. Aldine #1412 in Houston, Texas. Following his retirement from Brown & Root, he moved to his farm in Iola, Texas and worked for the Construction Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 10 years during the expansion of the prison system. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and working with his hands carving and drawing animals. He also loved watching old western movies and reading history books. J C was a compassionate man that was always there to help his family and friends. He is survived by his best friend and wife Hazel of 15 years. J C was extremely proud of his children J D (Vicki) Davis of Huntsville; Dan (Debra) Davis of Iola; Debbie Davis of Livingston; and Donna (John) Gilbert of Huntsville. He is also survived by stepsons Scotty (Heather) Walenta of Rosenberg and Chris (Leslie) Walenta of Richmond; stepdaughters Tammy (Thad) Davis of Conroe and Sherry Berliner of Houston; siblings Kenneth (Nelcene) Davis of Conroe; Betty Sue Akins of Conroe; Nell Waltz of Conroe and Liz (Richard) Hayes of Houston; former wife Esther Davis of Huntsville; grandchildren Mark Calfee; Bart (Kathy) Davis; Brad (Molly) Davis; Dan Davis; Justin Davis; Victoria Gilbert; Mark (Lindsey) Gilbert; Michael Gilbert; step grandchildren Wesley Walenta; Michael Walenta; Haley Walenta; Evan Davis; Lia Davis; Ada Naab and Grayson Berliner and many loving great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. J C was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. The family would like to express a special thank you to his church family and friends at Shilo Baptist Church for their care and support. Additionally, thank you to Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home for all of the arrangements. Mr. Davis will lie in state from 12 noon to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with the family receiving visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Services for J C will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM. J C will be laid to rest at the Riverside Pioneers Cemetery in Riverside, Texas.
