Hattie Lou Pool

Hattie Lou Pool was born Januray 21, 1905 in the Mustang Community of Walker County to Willie and Mattie Harman Reaves. She was the only girl in the family with five brothers. She passed away May 31, 2007 at the age of 102. She had many hobbies, but her passion was the flowers which she grew in her yard. She loved her roses. If she saw a flower she had never seen before in someone elses yard she would stop and ask them about it and often bring home a start for her yard. Friends were often bringing her something else to plant. Her love of working in the yard extended into her vegetable garden where she grew tomatoes, peas, corn, cucumbers, beans, and squash, in abundance, all of which she would can during the summer months to feed here family throughout the year. There was never a time that you went to her house that she didn’t have something good to eat. During the winter months you’d find her sitting at her Singer treadle machine piecing quilts, most of which were given to family members throughout the years. Also during the cold weather she would crochet and embroidery. She is survived by three sons and their wives; Homer and Elsie Pool, Joey and Jane Pool and Travis Aad Brenda Pool, seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Gertrude Reaves and many nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband C.E “Ebb” Pool of sixty years, and five brothers; Olie B., Edgar, John Aaron, Dallas, R. and Hughie Edwards Reaves. Services will be held Monday June 4, 2007 at 10 AM in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pool’s Cemetery in Montgomery County. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons; Ricky, Randall, Aubrey, Glen, Gary,and Barry Pool and Gary Bowen serving as honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Union Grove Baptist Church of Richards.
