Harvey Lee Hivnor

Harvey Lee Hivnor passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 28 in Willis, Texas. An award-winning entrepreneur, educator, community leader and above all, family man, Harvey Hivnor will be remembered for his generosity, business savvy and warm sense of humor. Harvey is survived by his wife of 49 years, Diane, by his sons Chad (Christy) of San Antonio, Brock (Brandi) and Derek (Dyana), both of Willis, and by 12 grandchildren: Cole, Luke, Joey Joiner, Mary Kate, Clare, Gianna, Blaise, Logan Havard, Braydon, Madison, Mason and Reagan. He will also be fondly remembered by the personnel of the Company he founded in 1980, H&R Mfg. and Supply, Inc. The only son of Archie Lee and Alberta Mae Hivnor, Harvey was born June 10, 1942, in Zanesville, Ohio. He graduated from Philo High School in Philo, Ohio, and went on to earn a B.S. in Education from Ohio University in Athens and an MBA from The Ohio State University-Columbus. Beginning his career as a teacher at Wilson Junior High School in Newark, Ohio, he filled his spare time in his workshop, making furniture. It was his love of creating that led him to establish a small machine tool manufacturing company in the early 1980s in Conroe, Texas. What started as a part-time business, long-term investment and tax shelter, evolved into a multi-million dollar enterprise. He and Diane built the business while seeing three boys through high school and college. Harvey also gave his time and talent to the community, coaching Conroe YMCA football and basketball for 20 years and contributing to the work of the Rotary Club of Conroe, who awarded him as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was awarded “Small Business Person of the Year” by the Small Business Association-Houston District in 2003, and District Director’s Choice Award the same year by the U.S. Small Business Association. This year, Harvey was given the 50 Year Award by the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio. Harvey loved to travel, often combining business with pleasure, like the time he came to Morocco for tourism and ended up lecturing at Casablanca’s business school, or when he and Diane celebrated their anniversary in Italy and visited manufacturing plants in Turin. He bonded with his boys through hunting and their mutual love of football. The nomination for the “Small Businessman of the Year” award said that “H&R continues to thrive because Harvey leads by example, dedicated not only to his business, but also his community, his employees and his family." He will be missed not only by his family, but by everyone in the community and business world whose lives he touched. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be at 5:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 13, 2016, located at 2727 N, Loop 336 West, Conroe, TX 77304 followed by a social gathering.
