Harriet A Kerr

Harriet A. Kerr, 86, of Montgomery, TX left her earthly home for her Heavenly home on January 16, 2025. After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Harriet was called into the arms of her loving Savior. A devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Harriet was affectionately known as “G-Maw” to her grandchildren and “GG-Maw” to her great grandchildren. To her Arkansas family, she will always be “Harry.” Harriet was born on January 31, 1938, to Ewell, Jr. and Marzelle “Polly” Moseley Gulley in Cale, Arkansas. She spent much of her early childhood in Reader, AR, where along with her brother and cousins, swam in the Little Missouri River and the Dailey Pond, ran up and down the local dirt roads, and played in the thicket. Harriet was raised in her later childhood years in Chidester, AR. She was a proud graduate of Chidester High School in 1956 where her athletic skills were on display in her varsity basketball career. Shortly after graduation, Harriet accepted a position to begin aviation radio training in Cleveland, Ohio where she soon married Robert “Bob” Kerr, Sr. and started a family. Harriet and her family lived in several cities in Northeast Ohio before living overseas in Karachi, Pakistan (1962-1964) and Bangkok, Thailand (1969-1972) and then returned to North Olmsted, Ohio in 1972. The family relocated to Spring, TX in 1975 and ultimately established roots in Montgomery, TX in 1978. Harriet worked in the pro shop at the April Sound Tennis Center and then began a 30-year career as Manager of the Pro Shop at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, which included 22 years with Head Golf Professional, Ron Coville. She was well-respected and loved by the staff and members alike for her attention to detail and dedication to customer service. Harriet developed many lifelong friendships during her career, which continued long after her retirement. After retirement, Harriet continued her lifelong pursuit of service to her church and to her community, displaying a true servant-heart. She was a fixture in the April Sound Church choir and was passionate about her service to the Lake Conroe Area Republican Women, where she enjoyed extended terms serving as Treasurer. She also served on the HOA board of her local community, West Palm Villas. Harriet lived a fulfilling life, filled with love and service. Living on Lake Conroe and seeing the lake just outside of her back porch filled her heart each and every day. Her many interests and hobbies began with her family, and she absolutely loved her sports. She enjoyed watching and supporting her sons in their sports from youth leagues through college. That same enjoyment was later spent watching her grandchildren compete in sports, again from youth leagues through their college careers. She was an athlete herself and played tennis and golf for many years at April Sound and Walden. Working out daily at Spring Fitness Montgomery always got her busy days off to a great start. She was a huge fan of the Rockets and Astros and thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet many of the players and coaches when they came to play golf at Walden. She developed an enduring friendship with the Rockets coaching staff, and was thrilled with their championship runs over the years. Harriet loved to travel with her cherished friends and particularly enjoyed the beach and ocean. She was also an accomplished pianist, having taught herself in high school to play by ear. Although she passed her musical skills and abilities on to her two sons; unfortunately, they didn’t take. Harriet was preceded in death by her father Ewell, Jr. (August 26, 2000); her mother Marzelle “Polly” (December 15, 2005) and her brother Joe Jackson Gulley (March 29, 2012). Harriet spent many years lovingly caring for Joe during the latter stages of his life. Although Harriet and Bob’s marriage ended in 1983, their friendship and mutual respect continued until his death (April 1, 2019). Harriet is survived by her sons Mickey Kerr, Sr. & his wife Dee and Bob Kerr, Jr. & his wife Kim. Harriet adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Courtney and husband Kyle & daughter, Lynlie; Mickey, Jr.; Colton; and Leahann & husband Travis & daughters Kendall, Emery, and Brynn. Harriet Kerr was a devout Christian and lived an extraordinarily courageous life, filled with vitality, purpose, and meaning with enriching experiences and heartfelt relationships. She touched the hearts and lives of so many people, including her precious family; her extended family in Arkansas, Ohio, Colorado, Oregon, and Arizona; her countless friendships that especially includes Wanda, the Thelma to her Louise; and her community service. Harriet resided in her beloved local community of West Palm Villas, and she was blessed with wonderful neighbors who became cherished friends. Harriet’s family, and all who knew her, not only deeply loved her, but also admired and respected her for the accomplishments of her life and for the legacy she left. Hers was a life well-lived, and she leaves behind a void that will never be filled. A “Celebration of Life” for Harriet A. Kerr is scheduled for March 8, 2025, at 11:00am.
