Gwen Gallington

Gwendolyn Gallington, age 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 7, 2024 after a very short battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She passed away peacefully at her home in Conroe with her husband of 65+ years and her three daughters by her side. Gwen leaves behind a legacy of faith and love. Gwen, also known as “Jerry” to close childhood friends, was born on July 16th, 1939 in Houston, Tx. She graduated high school in 1957 from Jefferson Davis High School. She married the love of her life, James V. Gallington, on May 2nd, 1958. That love lasted for 65 years and 8 months and will continue into eternity. Gwen worked many jobs throughout her years. One of her very first jobs was working at the downtown Houston Federal Reserve Bank, but her most loved and rewarding job was to stay home and take care of her three young daughters. As they grew older, she became a teacher’s aide and later, subbed in the Aldine school district. In 1998, she received an associate degree in Cosmetology, began working at various hair salons in the Houston area and later earned her instructor’s license. She did this until she retired. Gwen was very active in the church. She loved dressing up her three girls in their Sunday best. She and her family attended Memorial Baptist for over 10 years, where she volunteered in the 2nd grade Sunday School class. The family then helped start Spring Memorial Baptist, where Gwen served on the pulpit committee to find the first pastor. She was a charter member of that church. In her later years, she and her husband attended FBC Conroe, Mims Baptist, and most recently, FBC Willis. When they attended FBC Conroe, Gwen was a part of the Happy Strings Ukulele band and a puppeteer with the group. Gwen loved sewing, painting, crocheting, and creating beautiful crafts for her family and friends. She loved all animals. She owned a squirrel, monkey, ferret, cats, and dogs. Her most beloved pet came this Christmas, when she received a precious Havanese puppy, Bridgett. Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Pitt & Alluwee Hamilton; her two sisters, Patsy Carter and Rhonda Spain; and son-in-law, John Peake. She is survived by her husband of 65+ years, James V. Gallington; three daughters, Tammy Albrecht and her husband, Jimmy, of Dewitt, Arkansas; Lauri Peake of Conroe, Tx; Kimberly Rychlik and her husband, Bruce, of Rosenberg, Tx; grandchildren, Christie Yates and her husband, Eric, of Asheville, N.C.; Jimmy Albrecht Jr (JJ) of Winthrop, Maine; Caulan Peake, Brianna Peake, Courtney Rychlik, Mandy Rychlik, and Bailey Rychlik, all of the Houston area; and two great grandsons, Samuel Yates and Levi Yates. Gwen will be greatly missed, but we know we will see her again in Heaven because of our faith in Jesus Christ.
