Grady Chandler

Grady Chandler was born November 22nd, 1929 in Crockett, TX and passed away at his home in New Waverly, TX on August 3rd, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. He moved from Houston to Walker Co. in 1956. He was a brick mason by trade and later, a general contractor. In 1972 he and his wife, Priscilla Chandler, built The Waverly House Restaurant. Grady was well known for his generosity and heart for helping people. He loved people and eagerly gave his best in any work he did. He also felt that he should serve his community; first, as City Council man then, as Mayor and New Waverly ISD board member. He was loved and respected by his family, friends, employees, and customers alike. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of New Waverly where he was a member for forty-five years. The men in his Sunday School Class were very special to him. He was ready to meet his Lord and Savior long before he passed away. His favorite scripture was I Corinthians 2:9 “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” Grady is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Priscilla Chandler; his children, who he took much pride in: Debbie and husband Wayne Pool, Grady and wife Judy Chandler, Dorinda Gonzalez, and Linda and husband Leslie Hubbell; his grandchildren, who added so much to his life: Amber, Priscilla and husband Wense, Amanda, Wayne and wife Crystal, Suzanne and husband Gary, Mendy and husband Chad, Emily and husband Alberto, Kelle, and Sandy and husband David. He was blessed with thirteen great grandchildren and was looking forward to three more by October. They loved their Paw Paw. He is also survived by one sister, Lorraine Cook of Centerville; one brother, Bill Chandler and wife Uta of Caldwell, Idaho; two sister in laws: Donna and husband Richard Robbins of West Des Moines, Iowa and Melba Ordelheide of Pasadena; and seven nieces and two nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday, August 6th at 2:00 p.m. and the viewing, Sunday, August 5th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. Pastor Grady Chandler and Pastor Lloyd Maddoux will direct the service and the burial will be at Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Wayne Pool Jr., Wense Savala, Alberto Merino, Gary Riley, Chad Flowers, and Jerry Abbey. Honorary Pallbearers are his Sunday School Class, Elven Barnes, and Bobby Wise.
