Gertrude Reed

Gertrude (Gerry) Geraldine Miller Reed, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, Nanny, and friend to many went to be with the Lord and her loved ones on October 12th of 2024. At the age of 89, she passed peacefully after spending her last lucid moments with Jodie. Though she battled dementia, she maintained her kindness and grace until the very end. Gerry was born to Alfred and Eura Pruitt on September 11th of 1935. Most importantly, she was born with a built-in best friend, her older sister, Georgia. Gerry turned 16 on a Tuesday, and was married on a Thursday in 1951 to Harvey Leroy Reed. With her marriage to Leroy, she also gained three sisters, Doris, Louise, and Lorine. Gerry and Leroy eventually welcomed their daughter, Jahn Lorraine, into the world on March 4th of 1966. They were married for 49 years, until Leroy’s death. Gerry had a second chance at love when she married James Godfrey in 2009. Gerry lived her life well. She loved to travel, from European trips with her girlfriends to cruises to camping in the RV with Leroy and granddaughter, Jodie. Another passion was painting, especially wearable art. There is not a holiday that Gerry and her sister had not celebrated by painting a shirt. She even pursued this as a business for quite some time. She retired from the US Postal Service. Her greatest “jobs” were Nanny and Aunt Gerry. These are what one is most likely to think of when they hear Gerry’s name. She took these roles seriously and loved so many as her own, often spoiling them rotten. She is survived by granddaughter, Jodie, and husband, Heath, and her great-grandchildren, Dodge and Tucker. She is also survived by grandson, Wyatt Smith, and his family and grandson, Tyler Smith, and his wife. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, her sister, her sisters-in-laws, Doris and Louise, and her second love, Jim. She is also preceded in death by her and Leroy’s Chihuahua, Peanut, who she is likely feeding rotisserie chicken and Blue Bell right now. The family wants to thank Irene Curry for her faithful dedication the past couple of years, as well as all who had a hand in her care while residing in College Station, specifically Traditions Hospice.
