Frances Corine Horak

Frances Corine Vickers Horak, our precious mamma, joined her heavenly Father on Friday, July 7, 2017, in Huntsville, Texas. The youngest daughter of Tom and Iva Vickers, Frances was born May 29, 1923, in Isla, Texas, in Sabine County. She graduated valedictorian from Freeport High School, Freeport Texas. Shortly after graduation Frances married George Raymond Horak on November 17, 1941, and they were married almost 66 years until George’s death on July 13, 2007. Frances worked briefly for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport and in the local school district, but then stayed home to raise their three children. Once George retired from Dow Chemical, they moved to Huntsville, Texas, in 1986. Frances was a devout Christian and a member of First United Methodist Church of Huntsville. Her first priority was family. Her kind and giving nature won the hearts of all who met her. Our hearts break to let her go, but we are comforted knowing what an incredible angel Heaven has gained. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; daughter Barbara Horak Shurley; sisters Johnnie Wilder and Pauline Murphrey; brothers Charles Nay Vickers and Elwyn Vickers; and great granddaughter Adalynn Swinchatt. Those who will miss mamma dearly are son Michael Horak and wife Brooke of College Station; daughter Susan Horak White and husband David of Huntsville; son-in-law Billy Shurley of Pearland; grandsons Thomas White, Jeff Horak and wife Danielle, Brian Horak and wife Heather; great grandchildren Julia, Clara and Olivia Horak, Paige and Blake Horak; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank caregivers Sonya Archie, Earlie Collins, Helen Jackson, Carrie Ross, and Betty Williams for taking care of mamma since May 2012 until February 2017. They also wish to thank the nurses, aides and staff at Creekside Methodist Retirement Community for their care during her final months. Mrs. Horak will lie in state for viewing from 3 pm – 6 pm on Monday, July 10, 2017. The family will have a private graveside service on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, with the Reverend Ellen Willett officiating, at the Mayes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery, under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
