Floye Eloise Smith

Floye Smith, age 85, went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2022. Family visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2022, at noon in the McAdams Chapel, 1251 FM 1696, Huntsville, Texas, with service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Interment at McAdams Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville Floye was born on Oct 2, 1937, in Pasadena, Texas to Floyd and Damie Roberts. She graduated from Pasadena High School in 1956, and went on to attend Lee Junior College in Baytown where she earned her Associates Degree. While attending college, Floye met Marshall Smith from Deer Park. The two married on May 28, 1960 and made their home in Deer Park, Texas, where Marshall was a schoolteacher. Floye stayed busy at home as four children were born to them throughout the 1960's. Her kids were always eager to "volunteer" their mother for Room Mom or to bake cookies or attend field trips with their school classes, and Floye was always ready to pitch in and help. Floye and Marshall were active members of First Baptist Church Deer Park where Floye taught in girls missions organizations, led Bible Drill for children, and worked in Vacation Bible School. She sewed clothes for her children and sometimes for other kids who needed something special to wear. Camping and traveling were her hobbies, and Floye was always ready to "go" anywhere, at any time. She and Marshall spent most of their retirement years at their home in Huntsville, where they became active at University Heights Baptist Church and made many wonderful friends. In 2019, they moved to Longview to live near family again, and joined First Baptist Church Hallsville. Floye's greatest joy was in serving her family, her church, and her neighbors. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they treasure many fond memories of their "Nana". Floye was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Damie Roberts, and by her brothers, Richard Roberts and Billy Roberts. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Marshall Smith, by her daughters Sheryl Phillips (Rodney), Dawn Willis (Greg), Janet Jones Flies (Darren), son Jason Smith (Tracy); grandchildren Kassidy Bailey, Meredith Ramos (Jacob), Cameron Bailey (Megan), Kayla Dillman (Brandon), Trevor Phillips (Hailey), Amanda Jennings (Austin), Travis Phillips, Grace Smith, Gillian Smith, and Cody Flies (Karina); great- grandchildren Adalyn, Elijah, Myla, Lucy, Joshua, Cole, Chase, Luna, and Jesse, sister-in-law Emily Roberts, several nieces and nephews, and special long-time friends of the family and unofficial adopted daughters, Gwen Bridges and Robin Fortner. The family would also like to thank those who helped to care for Floye: Dr. Julie Lundy and Amy Lewis, and their wonderful nurses, Prime Care Hospice Nurse Cindy Fields, and Floye's two loving and compassionate care-givers, Rita Anderson and Linda McCormick, whom Floye considered to be "family".
