Eva Maxine Howse

Eva “Maxine” Howse Born May 6, 1930 in Fort Worth, Eva “Maxine” Howse was raised from the age of 2 in El Campo, Texas by her parents Charles & Eva Yost. She was a twirler in high school and served as drum majorette her senior year. Upon graduation she moved to Houston and worked until she caught the eye of a young sailor named William H. “Dub” Howse, Jr. and married in 1950. Three children soon followed and after the military, they moved frequently as Dub promoted with General Motors. In 1969 they settled in Huntsville where they opened a BBQ restaurant and then a building business. Maxine worked as a bookkeeper during the day and spent many nights into the wee hours sewing clothes and prom dresses. Dub worked last for TDCJ Correctional Industries until he retired. Maxine worked last at the Byrd Unit when she retired. Besides her family, Maxine’s greatest love was cooking. On Thursday, December 26, 2013, her sweet loving soul was suddenly called home to be with her Lord and Savior. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Eva Yost, and her beloved husband, William H. “Dub” Howse, Jr. Maxine is survived by her son William H. “Trey” Howse III and wife Jamie with children, Jennifer (& Lance) Wilkerson, Jessica (& Rob) Kirkland, and William H. (& Stephanie) Howse IV; by her daughter Lynda and husband John Katz with children Tracy (& Christi) Hartman and Leigh Anne Hartman; and daughter Cindy and husband Rick Longnecker with children Mark (& Crystal) Longnecker and Lisa Longnecker. Also surviving is her half-sister Susan Dessert and 11 great grandchildren who will greatly miss their “Mamaw.” Maxine had a loving joy-filled spirit and is cooking for the angels now. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. Interment will follow in Brooke Cemetery in Huntsville. Family will receive friends Monday, December 30, 2013, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville.
