A Celebration of Life - Dorothy Alvena Tope My journey began June 20, 1927, in the town of East Bernard, Texas, and ended in Montgomery, Texas, on February 28, 2018, when our Heavenly Father called me to join my Father and Mother, Uriah and Alvena Cooper along with my siblings: brothers Dallas (Bessie) Cooper, Vance (Esterline) Cooper, Sidney Cooper, and Clarence (Mary Lou) Cooper, and my sister, Willie Mae (Phillip) Hollingsworth, and brothers-in-law Worth (Dorothy) Washburn, Harold Horton, and my late husband, Ernest Horton. I am survived by my loving husband of 13 years this month, Bob Tope, and my beautiful, caring daughters, Susie (Scott) Turner and Kathy (Jerry) Boyle; brother, Monroe (JoNell) Cooper; my five grandchildren, Dave (Shelly) Turner, Daniel (Jay) Turner, Donny Turner, Jason (Jennifer) Boyle, and Katie (Anna) Boyle. I am also survived by sisters-in-law Esther Horton and Georgia Cooper, many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and Bob’s six children, Rob (Nelda) Tope, Patti Tope, David (Jennifer) Jones, Liz (Bill) Sudlow, Kathy (Terry) Newman, and Debbie Gudelman. I graduated from Wallis High School and then attended business school earning my secretarial certification. I just loved my first job as a PBX operator where I met my best friend and future sister-in-law. Forthcoming careers I also enjoyed included being a school secretary for Pasadena Independent School District for several years and Payroll Supervisor for Aldine Independent School District where I incorporated my passion for working with numbers. Upon retirement from AISD, I dabbled as a Real Estate Agent before retiring again to teach line dancing twice a week, play cards, dominoes and golf, participate in church activities, and spend a lot of time loving and laughing with my family and friends. I bid farewell to my wonderful Church family who have been such an inspiration to me! The family would like to give special thanks to Ms. Sarah Jones and Ms. Gloria Jordan, who were sweet friends and caregivers! Due to space constraints, we apologize for anyone we did not recognize because Dorothy was surrounded with love and care from so many! Please join us for refreshments in the Faith Center after the service. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested memorial contributions be made in her name to Montgomery United Methodist Church General Fund.
