Dorothy Eloise (Holcomb) Allen

Eloise passed away on May 8, 2011 at age 90. Born May 7, 1921, in Beulah, Texas, Eloise excelled in sports and was a star basketball player at Rusk High School. After graduation, Eloise attended Sam Houston University. Eloise and Harry Allen were married while students at Sam Houston at the First Methodist Church in Rusk, Texas on July 14, 1940. Once married, Eloise shared an adventuresome life with Harry during his 22 years in the Air Force. Eloise enjoyed the military life and the many travels throughout the world. Eloise was a gifted seamstress. She spent many hours creating patterns and sewing clothes for her two little daughters. Once Harry retired from the military, Eloise studied for her real estate license and became a top seller with John L. Scott on Mercer Island, Washington. Once they moved to Dallas, Texas, Eloise joined the Arthur Garza Real Estate and then Paula Stringer Real Estate offices. She achieved the Millionaire’s Club as an outstanding salesperson numerous times. She enjoyed playing golf and became an expert quilter. When Harry retired in 1985 to build their award winning dream home on the Allen/Fraser family homestead in Huntsville, Eloise was very proud of their beautiful gardens around their home and worked hard to keep them perfect. Eloise became very active in the Tall Pines Quilt Guild and continued to create beautiful quilts. Her sense of color was highly developed and the fabric color combinations she created were outstanding. Eloise loved her Holcomb family deeply and enjoyed every moment that she could spend with them. Going to Beulah and Rusk was one of her most enjoyable times. She doted on her grand children and great grand children and thought that each accomplishment was the best ever! Eloise was one of those rare people who thought only good thoughts. She looked at the best in everyone and was a friend to all. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Eloise is survived by her husband, Harry; two daughters, Beth Willis and husband Dale and Genie Cook; two grandchildren, Charles Andrew Cook and wife Karin and their daughter, Dora and Cory Rebecca Wren and husband Clif; two great-grandchildren Gracyn Eloise and Paul Kaden; sister, Genelle Richards and her family and brother, George Robert Holcomb and his family. Eloise is preceded in death by her parents George Finney Holcomb and Bessie Hendrick Holcomb and sisters, Ruth Elizabeth Holcomb and Rose Mary Thompson. Services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Texas with interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville. Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 11, 2011, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.
