Derrick Michael Bussey

Derrick went to his Heavenly home on February 26, 2018 at the young age of 35 years. Derrick was born June 20, 1982 in Huntsville, Texas, the only son to Donna Sue Bussey. Prior to moving to Colorado in November, 2017, Derrick lived his entire life in Huntsville. He graduated from Huntsville High School in 2000 and then Sam Houston State University in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Plant and Soil Sciences, minoring in Mass Communications. As a boy, Derrick loved bugs – mainly snails, Ninja Turtles and Transformers. Derrick, as an only child, and Donna, as a single parent, shared a great deal during his short time on this earth. They confided in each other and helped each other as they moved through life’s journey together. They shared a real passion for their cats. He loved his four legged fur babies - Luna, Casanova and Jack. Even though he was a cat lover at heart, he loved all animals. They could sense his kindness and were drawn to him naturally. Derrick enjoyed playing games. He played board games, video games and online games. His favorites were strategic games. He played in many online and video game tournaments throughout the State. As Derrick grew to adulthood, he developed a passion for plants, particularly the succulents and cacti. One of Derrick’s goals in Colorado was to conduct research in plant oils to treat and eventually cure adult epilepsy. Derrick was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2016 and suffered from severe seizures which ultimately took his life. Derrick is survived by his mother, Donna Bussey; grandparents, Alvera and Billy Guyton of Huntsville; great grandmother, Alvina Luedke of Huntsville; aunt Carrie Hines and husband Tim of Bryan; cousins Laura Polasek and husband Steven, Jonathan Hines and wife Anna and Kelsey Manning and husband Clint; second cousins, Micayla Polasek, Madi Polasek, Jaxon Hines, Jordan Hines, Kali Manning, Colt Manning and Braxton Manning, all of Bryan; great aunt Shirley Easterling and husband Billy of Huntsville, goddaughter, Scarlet Jackson, numerous second and third cousins and a host of truly awesome and dear friends. Derrick was preceded in death by his great grandfather, Alfred Oscar Luedke, great grandmother, Maudie Mae Thorne and great grandfather, Rufus Guyton. Derrick leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but will live on through our special memories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rita B. Huff Humane Society of Walker County, Texas in Derrick’s honor.
