David Glenn McDowell

David Glenn McDowell passed away Monday, December 12, 2011, peacefully at his home. David was born August 27, 1940 in Clarksville, Texas, to David Brady McDowell and Pansy Mae Mathews. David was raised by his grandmother Ida Elizabeth Parmer along with cousin, Robert Brady Foster. David was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. David enjoyed time with his pastor Bro. James Featherstone. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 19, located in Huntsville. David served 6 years in United States Army and National Guard. He served 39 years in law enforcement, retiring in 2004. He attended Henderson County Junior College where he received an associate degree in Police Science. David continued his education to achieve his license has a polygraph examiner. David served 19 years with the Palestine Police Department where he achieved the position as Chief of Police and CID Commander. He was a retired State Peace Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the rank of Lieutenant. David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Donna McDowell; his daughters, Debra Copeland and husband, Chris, Glenda Lennie Minor and husband, Grady, Catherine Venette and husband, John, Angela Dean and husband, Mickey, Dana Holladay and late husband, Larry, Lisa Brown and grandson Justin Brown; sons, David Allan McDowell and wife, Marla, David Wayne McDowell and wife, Susanna; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David loved each of them dearly. He enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing, gardening and his quail birds. His love of cooking made everyone smile. Serving as pallbearers are D.J. McDowell, Chris Copeland, Jacob Minor, Sonny Fox, Ronnie Fletcher and Shane Moore; honorary pallbearers are Justin Brown and Ron Elliott. Services for David will be held Friday, December 16, 2011, 10:00 a.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas with burial to follow at Clines Prairie Cemetery in Walker County, Texas. Family will receive friends Thursday, December 15, 2011, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville.
