Danny Brown

Danny Elton Brown was born in LaMarque, Texas on March 29, 1943 to Robert J. and Vernice Brown. He left this world for heaven, surrounded by his loving family on Friday March 7, 2014. Danny grew up in Huntsville. He served in the United States Navy as a radio operator from 1960-64, and served at the beginning of the Vietnam War. After returning from the Navy, he found the love of his life, Lois Marie Sterling, and married her on December 23, 1964. He began his career in auto-body repair at Wood Motors in Huntsville. He served as manager at Callahan Chevrolet in Trinity, and then moved to Max Mahaffey Ford in Conroe. He and Lois and their 3 small girls moved to New Waverly in 1971, where, along with his father, they built a successful business from the ground up, Brown and Son Paint and Body Shop, which had its grand opening on January 2, 1972. ("Danny Brown, he's our man...if he can't do it, his Daddy can!") Danny served as Mayor of New Waverly for a time, and was also a member of the John Sims Masonic Lodge and was instrumental in replacing the old lodge building. He moved the body shop to Huntsville in 1988, building it back up from a 2 stall shop to a 3 building compound. Danny loved music and played guitar in a band for a number of years. He loved fishing, playing cards, and just being with his family. "Poppy"'s grandchildren were the light of his life. His favorite days were always the ones where all his girls and grands were there with he and Gigi (Lois) at their home. He was a happy man-- always in a good mood and wanting to bring a smile to your face; he was an honest and faithful friend with huge heart. He never met a stranger and would give anyone the shirt off his own back. The world has truly lost a wonderful man. Danny is survived by his beautiful wife of 49 years, Lois Sterling Brown, daughter Dana Brown Tutor, daughter and son-in-law Sheryl and Russell Keys, daughter and fiancé Rebecca Brown and Roger Caldwell, grandchildren Waylon Henry Tutor, Jakson Russell Keys, and Avery True Keys. Stepmother Eva Brown, Brother and wife, Joe and Ann Brown, sister and husband Penny and Don Fowler, honorary brother and sister (cousins) Ronnie and Nancy NeSmith, sister and husband Jamie and Don Brinegar, step-sister Gay Wolverton, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Virgil and Janice Sterling, sister-in-law Becky Steely, sister-in-law Anna Lee Cooley, and numerous nieces, nephews. cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Jefferson Brown, mother Bertha Vernice Ellisor, and brother Bobby Frank Brown. Family will receive friends Monday, March 10, 2014, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, Tx.
