Charlene Moore 1933-2015 Charlene Massie Moore ended her 81-year journey on April 19, 2015. Her life was full of love and adventure. She was a blessing to who knew her. Charlene was born in Houston and spent her later years in Huntsville, Texas. She met her husband of 61 years, Wilbur Moore, in Houston and there they raised their five children – four daughters – Cynthia Zaal, Julie Brune, Suzanne Hart, and Nancy Reves – and a son, David Moore. While living in London and Saudia Arabia, where Wilbur was on loan by Exxon, Charlene organized many travels so that she and her family saw much of the world. She made friendships wherever she went, and she nurtured those friendships throughout her lifetime. Along the way thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren were added to her cherished family. Charlene spent most of her life nourishing these children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to a life devoted to nurturing her extended family, she also served as foster mother to a half dozen infants to teenagers. She was generous in serving childcare organizations in Houston and orphan homes in Texas. She was a founder of the thrift store that provided funding for many years to Christian Child Help Foundation. Charlene also volunteered for many years at TIRR (Texas Institute for Rehabilitation and Research), helping those with spinal cord injuries. She was known for giving love and very practical assistance to friends experiencing life crises. Charlene loved skiing the Alps and Rocky Mountains, bowling, water sports in Texas lakes, dancing, golfing, and bridge. She accumulated an abundance of picture albums, especially of family and foreign travel. Her collection of memorial spoons of cities, states and countries visited exceeded 200. In her spare time she enjoyed making special quilts and Christmas stockings for her family – embroidering, knitting and sewing. The warm hospitality of her home was always comforting, along with her plentiful hugs and kisses. Charlene is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and one brother, Giles Ray Massie of Tucson, Arizona. She will be missed by them all. Charlene was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Vickers Massie; her father, Walter Morrow Massie; and her sisters, Steina Stratton, Vera Lilly and Kathleen Phillips. Special thanks are extended to Charlene’s caregivers, especially Tiffani Beall for providing loving care to her grandmother over the last several years. Other family members and friends were also of tremendous assistance to Charlene and Wilbur during her extended decline. Family and friends of Charlene Massie Moore are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, June 13 at First Christian Church, 1800 Avenue R, Huntsville, Texas 77340. The celebration service will begin at 2pm with fellowship and refreshments immediately following.
