The funeral service will be Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 2:30Pm in the chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis. Burial will be Monday, August 13 at Smith Memorial Park in Willis. Cecelia Ann Hendrix was born October 23,1931 in Houston, Texas to Oscar and Augusta Campbell. Ann grew up during hard times... The Great Depression, World War II. Ann enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood and of how these difficult times pulled family and neighbors together. She even had her own blog where she posted funny stories and poignant memories from this time in her life ;such as the time she was chased across a field by a big bull while she was wearing a bright red coat. One of her favorite stories to tell was of how she came to meet the love of her life, Irvin Hendrix. Irvin’s mom was Ann’s Sunday School teacher and a woman Ann truly respected While Irvin was stationed in Korea serving in the Marine Corp, Mrs Hendrix asked Ann if she would be willing to write Irvin to help “lift his spirits”. For 9 months Ann and Irvin corresponded regularly and fell in love even though they had not yet met in person. Ann and Irvin were married February 11, 1955, shortly after Irvin’s discharge. After attending Massey’s Business College during her early adulthood, Ann was employed by Houston Natural Gas where she continued to work until their first child was born. It was then that Ann devoted herself to what she enjoyed most in life ...caring for her family. Ann loved spending time with Irvin and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Holidays and special occasions always meant there would be a huge feast and lots of photographs. Ann was notorious for sneaking up on family members with her camera and snapping their pictures. Ann and Irvin loved to travel. They traveled to 49 of the 50 States often with grandkids or other family members along for the fun. Beneath Ann’s sweet, gentle appearance was the heart of a fighter. Through God’s grace and mercy, she bravely fought and conquered breast cancer. She never left Irvin’s side during the 8 years he battled lung cancer. During the last year of her own life, she surprised the doctors time after time by courageously and stubbornly fighting through multiple strokes and other life threatening conditions. Although Ann accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age and leaned heavily upon Him throughout her life, it was during this last year of Ann’s life that she came to experience His goodness and mercy on a more intimate and personal level. She spent many hours of the day listening to stories depicting God’s love and grace and time in prayer. She began to feel very Homesick and longed to see her beloved Irvin once again. God answered her prayers to go Home shortly after midnight August 2, 2018 at the age of 86, after spending the day surrounded by family. Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Augusta Campbell, her brother, Charles Campbell and her husband of 59 years, Irvin Hendrix. Ann has left behind their children Corene (Gary) Finley, Danny (Barbara) Hendrix, Regina (Jim) Keadle, grandchildren Eric (Jessica) Finley, Kevin (Alisha) Finley, Rachel Wallace (Greg Braaten), Amy (Sunny) Oliver, Candace Wallace (John Bailey), Chris (Kristan) Hendrix, Sarah Wallace, Bryan (Rachel) Hendrix, Elizabeth (Jony) Madrid, Stephen Hendrix (Rachael Chandler) and great grandchildren Katlyn, Lily, Brooke, Andrew, Kelly, Alex, Zeth, Emma, Bentley, Clara, Kate, Aleza, Chandler, Lucy, and Ellie Ann as well as beloved extended family and friends.
