Bonnie E. Holland

Bonnie E. Holland, 65, went home to be with her Lord and Savior April 16, 2017. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones as she made her journey home. Bonnie was born September 22, 1951 in Buffalo, TX to JD and Pauline Holland. She called Huntsville home for more than 50 years where she became a prominent member of the community and a successful entrepreneur. Bonnie was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Bonnie was best known for her love of children. She was certified by the State of Texas as a Licensed Child Care Provider. She has cared for her babies and even babies’ babies since 1981. Bonnie started keeping children because she did not trust anyone to watch her most precious baby and greatest achievement, her daughter, Amanda. Bonnie and Amanda had an unbreakable bond like no other. Bonnie loved her babies and they loved her. She was known by all as Bon or Bon Bon. She loved each one as if they were her own, and her family continued to grow for over 35 years. Bonnie nurtured each one as well as their parents. She was their advisor, teacher, listener, giver, and friend. Bonnie planted a seed in each child to become the best version of who they could be. She helped raise teachers, firefighters, business owners, forestry law enforcement officers, and professionals. She was proud of each child. She loved when her grown babies would come for a visit or give hugs when they saw each other in town. Bonnie made a lasting impression on so many children and their parents. Bonnie’s most recent passion was ‘It’s A Piece of Cake.’ Bonnie began baking for family and friends and her passion turned into a small business. Bonnie and her sister, Faye, made everything from cookies to pies to 5-tier wedding cakes for the last 10 years. Everyone who had the pleasure of her simple homemade goodies could taste the love in each bite. Bonnie also loved to cook down home country food. She was known for her fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and her nieces’ favorite, her macaroni and cheese. Bonnie loved to listen to good ‘ole country music, especially George Strait. She also loved her Astros. On game nights you would find her in front of the TV yelling, screaming, and clapping for them. She even traveled to New York to see them play the Mets, and was beyond excited when she realized she was staying in the same hotel as the players. Bonnie is preceded in death by her father, JD Holland, her paternal grandparents James Douglas and Bonnie Holland, her maternal grandparents Emanuel and Ivy Gressett, and niece Taylor Marie Holland. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Holland Ray and husband Kevin of Bryan, TX, mother Pauline Gressett Holland, brother Fred Holland, brother Rex Holland and wife Mary, all of Huntsville, TX, sister Faye Owens and husband Tommy of Conroe, TX, brother Ted Holland and partner Sam of Onalaska, TX, brother Lloyd Holland and wife Pam of Graceville, FL, nieces Amy Holland, Alison Partin, Jessica Holland, Jessie Rosenwald, nephew Logan Rosenwald, great-niece Lily Partin, great-nephews Payton Benick and Henry Allen Smith, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends. There will be a viewing for Bonnie Holland April 19, 2017, 6pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 10am on April 20, 2017. Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery.
