Betty Jean Lafferty

Betty Jean Huse Smith Lafferty was born in Rockwall, Tx., May 27, 1935, to Roy and Minnie Huse. Betty claimed her heavenly reward August 6, 2025, in Willis, Tx. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Reynolds (Lonnie), her son Harold Smith (Carol). Betty also leaves a grandson Heath Preston (Bridget), and a special friend Beamon Whitton. Betty married her high school sweetheart, Charles Ray Smith, on May 29, 1954, in Dallas, TX. They had 3 children and were married until his death in 1976. At that time, she went to work at Merrill, Lynch and then Texaco. While working at Texaco, she met Ken Ray Lafferty and they were married on May 19, 1979 in Houston, TX. They were married until his death in 2016. A friend said it best: "Betty was my hero, a woman who faced so many tragedies and was still full of faith, fun, and life". Betty loved to travel to ANY and EVERYWHERE. She loved cruising and went on too many cruises to count. Everyone who knew her absolutely knew her middle name was "GO" and the term "FOMO" (fear of missing out) was probably made for her as she never wanted to miss out on anything! Friends often wondered where she got all her energy! She always responded with the words of her dad, "I'd rather rust out, than wear out". She was only known to sit still long enough to enjoy the beautiful sunsets over Lake Conroe from her front porch or read a good book. She was still enjoying her many flowers and working in her yard at 90 years old. She also loved playing games and the fellowship with others during that time. She organized several Bunco groups and a monthly game night at her church. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles Ray Smith, husband, Ken Ray Lafferty, her son, Bruce Wayne Smith and grandson, Ryan Scott Allison. Betty loved her family and welcomed so many people into her home. One memorable 4th of July, she and Ken hosted somewhere around 50 people for the holiday weekend. There were pallets and cots everywhere! Betty’s warmth, strength, and enduring love will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of family, faith, and kindness.
