Barbara Louise Hargrove

A life well lived: Barbara Louise Hargrove February 16, 1945 - September 7, 2020 On Monday, September 7th at 75 years-old, while in the arms of her loving husband our Gammi went home to Jesus. Diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2015, she put up a courageous fight for five years. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through this battle! Gammi was born in Nebraska on an army base where she stayed for two days then came home to Texas. She was the oldest child of Glenn and Zada Louise Brown who preceded her in death along with her younger brother Bob Brown. Barbara has been a proud Houstonian all her life. She graduated from Waltrip High School then continued her education in interior design, with an advanced degree in “mothering". She met her lifelong love April 1st, 1961 and they married on July 19th, 1963. They shared 57 wonderful years of Love. Tom and Barbara raised their three children Tom Jr, Jeff, and Christi in Houston, Texas. If you know them you know they have a love no one could comprehend, it was an amazing testimony of a marriage full of love, respect, honor, romance, commitment and friendship. Barb continuously nurtured her family with home cooked meals almost every night and when the church doors were open she ensured her family was there! She loved working hard to make her surroundings beautiful with flowers blooming all around her house and yard all year round. In the evenings you would find her doing her favorite thing - sitting outside enjoying the sunset with her love, listening to music while enjoying happy hour together. Mom loved to travel as long as they could get there with 4 wheels on the ground or Xanax in her veins - and that was still very questionable! She had an eye for detail that no design degree could produce. It truly was a gift and she found so much joy in sharing that gift helping her three grown children decorate and re-decorate their homes, offices and nurseries. She also shared a special bond with her grandchildren as she decorated and re-decorated each of their rooms, and dorm rooms. Everyone that met our mom loved her dearly, mainly her infectious smile and warm welcoming personality. She was the glue to our family. Mom did everything to gather all of us together to celebrate every single birthday, Christmas and as many holidays as she could. She was the one who gathered us all together to sing Christmas carols while her daughter and grand kids played guitar. Gammi was the center of our lives in so many ways. She loved us unconditionally and every single night she prayed for all her children and grandchildren. She was also a friend to so many and took them in as her own. Our mom will be missed beyond understanding by each one of us. Barbara leaves behind her amazing husband, Thomas Lloyd Hargrove. Her children: Thomas Lloyd Jr and wife Rhonda, Jeffrey Glenn and wife Laura, Christi Louise and husband Justin Evans. She also leaves eight fabulous Grandchildren: Darbey Hargrove-21, Mackenzie Hargrove-20, Fisher Hargrove-19, Rex Hargrove-16, Adeline Hargrove-15, Braxtin Evans-11, Adix Evans-7 and Grove Louise Evans-1 and so many friends that she deeply cherished. Due to the current COVID status, the family will hold a private funeral service at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, Texas.
