Barbara Jean Bond

Barbara Strickhausen Bond lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, July 31, 2016. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. She had just celebrated her 62nd birthday in March. Barbara was born in Galveston, Texas, but moved to Montgomery, Texas in 2008 to be near her family. Barbara was born March 4, 1954 in Galveston, Texas to Waldo Leslie Strickhausen, Jr. and Alice Mae Simon. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary and O’Connell High School. As a child, she spent most of her time catching fireflies and lizards and going to the beach. She also enjoyed traveling. Some of her favorite destinations were Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Branson, Missouri. Barbara also loved strolling down the Strand in Galveston with her beloved cousin, Wendy, going to craft shows with her daughter, Ginger, and listening to the Cajun bands play at the Old Town Spring Crawfish Festival. She worked in the banking industry for over 40 years, and was proud of completing her insurance licensing. She was hard-working and dedicated not only to her job, but also her family. In 2008, Barbara moved to Montgomery, Texas to be close to her family. She would do anything in the world for her grandchildren and daughter. She scheduled her vacation time according to school schedules, so that she could spend every available moment with her family. She did not miss one program or event if her grandchildren or daughter were involved. On her days off, she enjoyed going to the park or zoo with her grandchildren. She loved to have pillow fights, sing karaoke and play Barbies with her granddaughter. She also loved to play ball and board games with her grandson. She was a huge support and best friend to her daughter. Life was not always easy, but she always made the best of it for her family. Barbara was a very private person. It was her wish that no one knew she was sick or battling cancer. Barbara faced every obstacle life threw at her with strength and courage. She never gave up. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Ginger Nonus Dolan, son-in-law, Brent Dolan, grandchildren, Hailey and Cody, and dear cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Alice Strickhausen, her grandparents, Lloyd and Mames Simon, and her beloved Maltese, Cricket. Family will receive friends at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 20850 Eva St, in Montgomery on Thursday, August 4th beginning at 5pm, funeral services will follow at 6pm. Thank you to all of the family and friends that supported Barbara and her family throughout this battle. There was such an outpouring of love from everyone. There are two exceptional nurses, Miss Nea and Miss Kathy that deserve all of our thanks for taking care of Barbara and her family in the final days. The staff at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home also deserve all of our thanks for demonstrating such compassion and support throughout one of the most difficult times in our lives.
