Arlene Ruth Koerselman

Arlene Ruth Koerselman died peacefully in her sleep early on August 8, 2026. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2023 but the suddenness of her death was due to heart disease. Arlene was born on April 28, 1941 to Martin and Irene Lenz in Alta, Iowa. After she. Graduated. From Fairfield High School in 1958 she enrolled at. Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa to study elementary music education. She graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. It. Is there that she met her husband Herb who also was studying music. After college they were married on July. 27, 1963 in Alta, Iowa. Soon after they were married, they moved to Indiana where Arlene taught elementary music at Martinsville for three years. Arlene became a mother in April of 1967 with a daughter, Lisa Marie. Two years later she gave birth to son Brian. This completed her family. After the children arrived Arlene chose to spend her time in the home tending to the children, running the house and helping the children in their school studies. Part of running the house involved taking care of the outside of the home. Arlene loved flowers. She had glorious flowers and bushes around each of our several homes. She really enjoyed spending time with her flowers and making the outside of our homes distinctive and beautiful. Arlene was very involved in each of our church homes. She taught Sunday School, led children in singing songs of praise and becoming a member of the adult choir. She did considerable work with the adult choirs by selecting anthems for service and keeping choir folders in good order. Many close friendships developed as a result of her activity with the choirs and other important church work. She is survived by a sister DeAnn from Eden Prairie, MN. She is also survived by her husband Herb, with whom she recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Also survived by her son Brian and his wife Karen and their three children. They are Blake (Clarissa), Victoria (Shelby), and Barrett (Tess). In addition, she is survived by a great-granddaughter named Brixton. Preceding Arlene in death were her parents and her daughter, Lisa Marie who died of cancer in August of 2018. In addition, there was a great grandchild who died shortly after birth. She was the daughter of Blake and Clarissa (Laila Blake Koerselman). A funeral service celebrating Arlene’s life in Christ will be on Wednesday, August 12th at 2:30 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Houston Ave., Houston, Texas 77007. Visitation will precede the service starting at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow services at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, 600 Sawyer St., Houston, Texas 77007.
