Annie Mae Nichols

Annie Mae (Strickland) Nichols Retired Public School Teacher Annie Mae Nichols was born December 22, 1926 in Walker County, Texas and died January 22, 2010 in Huntsville. Mrs. Nichols was a proud graduate of Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with minors in English, Fine Arts, and Social Studies. She married the love of her life in Huntsville, Texas on July 21, 1950. She and W.E. Nichols met in the five-and-dime store where Mrs. Nichols worked while attending school. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Huntsville, Texas since 1988 when she moved her membership and relocated to this area. Prayer Ministries have been a vital part of her life with faith and belief that prayer is very essential in all church ministries. The Agape Class held a special place in her heart where love and kindness was shown. All of the staff members at the Lexington Center were held close in her heart, as well. She cherished her time there and was so grateful for the love and caring that surrounded her during her final months. After retirement with teaching experience, she became interested in writing inspirational poetry. Her works are published in anthologies in the U.S. by the International Library of Poetry with international recognition as well by Noble House publishers. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Elmer Nichols, Jr.; son, Ronald William Nichols; parents, William Harmon and Ena M. Strickland; brother, William Harmon Strickland and sister, Minnie O. Aleivine. Survivors include sister and husband, Louise C. and Luther Laskie of Riverside; sister Ellen Gardner of Bryan; sister and husband, Dorothy J. and E.F. Arnold of The Woodlands; sister Lorene Parchman Morris of Bryan; sister and husband, Betty J. and Claudene Pierce of Riverside; sister-in-law Helen Strickland of Huntsville brother-in-law and wife Jack and Ramona Nichols, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010, and services will follow in the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Huntsville at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carroll Williams officiating. A private burial will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are Donnie Bilnoski, Ray Alewine, Sam Adams, Joe Strickland, Marc Strickland and Jack Nichols. Honorary pallbearers are Luther Laskie, E.F. Arnold, Claudene Pierce and Glyn Madden. Mrs. Nichols will be fondly remembered for her engaging smile, love of life, exuberance, positive attitude, and kindness. In lieu of flowers Mrs. Nichols requested that donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 1229 Avenue J, Huntsville, Texas 77340.
