Alvin Leyon Stutts Just before dawn, Tuesday, July 30, 2013, the Lord welcomed Alvin Leyon Stutts, into his heavenly realm. Alvin was born to Richard Bryant Stutts and Lou Ella Fails Stutts in Walker County on September 17, 1929. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Vernon Lamar Stutts. Surviving him is his wife of 63 years, Jo Beth McAdams Stutts, daughters Rosemary Coleman (James), Jana Certa (John), Joan Escamilla (Jose) and Jill Frazier (James); Grandsons James Alvin “Jac” Coleman (Sandy), Joe Daniel Coleman (Candius), Layne Gentry Willingham, and Rance MacGregor Frazier; Great Grandchildren Aiyana, Savannah, Caitlyn, Christopher, Seth, Kaiden, Isabelle, and Sophia Coleman; Sister Vernice Comella; and nephew, Michael Comella. Additional family: Brandi Myers (Ryan), Tandi Wright (Travis), Brynlee and Reed Myers. Alvin enjoyed being a life-long resident of Walker County, having descended from one of the earliest settlers. He grew up as a working cowboy in the employ of McAdams Cattle Company, J.H. Rose Ranch, and later on the YO Ranch in the Hill Country. His life revolved around his calf roping skill, enjoying the companionship of fellow calf ropers. In 1968, he won top honors in the American Quarter Horse Association Junior Roping Finals on the finest roping horse he had ever ridden, “Rebel’s Sugar”. He dearly loved the outdoors and spent his life working as a successful equipment contractor which continued until his health required retirement. Hunting and fishing were his passion. As an avid hunter, Alvin was a member of the Exotic Wildlife Association, receiving various awards for trophy game. He passed along his passion for hunting and fishing to his grandsons with them following in his footsteps. Alvin served his country in the Korean War and won a trophy during boot camp at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas for his superb marksmanship. He was no ordinary man. To his family he was a mountain and was always striving to accomplish more, and that is the way he met his Lord. There are no words to describe how greatly he will be missed. In the last few weeks of his life, he had the remarkable care of Christian caretakers from Ist Choice Hospice whose professionalism and compassion was unequaled. Cameshia Winfrey , Millie Hernandez, and the others can never be praised enough for how much they assisted his transition to meet his Lord. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McAdams Cemetery Association, 86 Dahlia Road, Huntsville TX 77320. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at McAdams Chapel in Huntsville, Texas with interment to follow in McAdams Cemetery.
