W. D. Gillaspie

Wade Duane (W.D.) Gillaspie Born April 19, 1928, in Dodge, Texas. Died October 4, 2010 in Huntsville, Texas. He was 82 years old. He was preceded in death by: his father and mother, Wade and Roxie Gillaspie, his sisters, Elsie and Mary Ann Gillaspie and grandson Kevin Gillaspie. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter and her husband Kathy and Guy Williams, son and his wife Wade and Terry Gillaspie, and son and his wife Doug and Trisha Gillaspie. He has 7 grandchildren and their spouses: David Lance and Theresa Gillaspie, Brandon Simmons, Guy and Ashley Williams, Lindsay Gillaspie, Tyler Wade Gillaspie, Suzanne and Kevin Williams and Sara Williams. He has 3 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Maya, and Gage Williams. He is also survived by his brother Alex and wife Machere Gillaspie and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. W.D. graduated from Huntsville High School in 1944. He attended Sam Houston College and served in the National Guard before entering the Air Force in 1950. While stationed in El Paso, Texas he met and married Joyce May. They were married 58 years this September. W.D. served as a sight and turrets systems technician in the Air Force and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and served 4 years in the Reserves. He worked as a heavy equipment contractor and rancher from 1954-1972 and was employed as a heavy equipment supervisor at TDC from 1972-1980. W.D. was a partner in Huntsville Aviation from 1981-1991 and was a heavy equipment broker from 1992 until his health began to decline. W.D. was a life long resident of Dodge. He was known by many names including Duane, Wade, W.D. and “Big Daddy.” After a lengthy illness he went home to our Lord, Jesus Christ. The family would like to express a special thank-you for the loving care he received at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 8, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Dodge Cemetery, Dodge, Texas with Rev. Jason Bay officiating. Family will receive friends Thursday, October 7, 2010, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.
