Shirley Ann Coleman

Shirley Ann Coleman was born November 25, 1943 at home in Bedias, Texas to Opal Lowery Coleman and Frank F. Coleman and was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on January 1, 2016. Shirley spent her childhood on the farm in Bedias and graduated from Madisonville High School in 1962. After moving to Huntsville in 1963, Shirley found her life-long calling working at Huntsville Memorial Hospital in the newborn nursery. For 37 years she loved and cuddled her little “goobers” and treated each of them as her very own. If you were born at Huntsville Memorial Hospital between 1964 and 2001, you most likely received your first bath and swaddle from Shirley and she believed each and every one of you were a special gift from God. There was a funny (and true) story passed down for years how one day the fire alarm went off and staff were not expecting a drill. The nurses at the main station looked up to see Shirley rushing from the nursery with four babies in her arms as she headed to the stairwell. The nurses said “Shirley, wait!” but she was on her way out the door and said “I’ve got the babies, you all need to come on!” Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Opal and Frank Coleman, brother, Ronnie Coleman and brother-in-law, George T. Williamson. Those left to cherish her memory include sister, Imogene Williamson, brother, Johnnie Coleman and wife Barbara; nieces and nephews, Barbara Brophy (Cavan); Rodney Coleman (Melanie); George Williamson; Teresa Stout (Jimmy); Josh Coleman and Crystal Coleman; as well as numerous cousins, great nieces, great nephews and two great-great nephews. Shirley’s family would like to thank Dr. Knight and his staff for their care throughout her life as well as the staff at Green Acres for their recent care. She loved her doctors and everyone she worked with at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM till 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in the chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.
