Peggy Nesmith

Peggy Huston Nesmith was born April 29, 1924 in Henderson, Texas to Stinson and Para (Morris) Huston. The Lord called her home February 28, 2015. She was 90 years of age. Peggy and her brother Terry were young children when her parents moved their basket factory to Trinity. She remembered fondly several events and people of that time and years later. On October 7, 1944 she married Fred S. Nesmith, Jr., the love of her life. While Fred was overseas during WWII, Peggy worked for 1st National Bank of Trinity. After the war, Fred finished his schooling at Texas A&M. He became an engineer for Amoco Oil and worked in The United States, Iran and in South America. They got to travel to great places in Europe and did lots of fishing in Argentina. They came back to the U.S. and settled in Huntsville, Texas. They were owners of Huntsville Equipment Rental where they made many friends and re-established friendships with those not seen in years. Being back at home they managed to go to as many A&M games as possible. Peggy was an avid sports fan and the TV was always on some sports show. Peggy and Fred were very close to the Lord and always showed that love by working in service to their church, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She especially loved her Sunday School class and got so much inspiration from everyone in it. She always said, “That class made her week.” After Fred’s death in October of 1992, Peggy’s faith became even stronger. She showed that faith every day of her life. When she learned of her illness, she accepted it with grace and dignity and lived her last days in that manner. Peggy was never blessed with children of her own, but dearly loved her nieces and nephews. She also became “Honorary” Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother to children who loved her. Preceding Peggy in death were her parents; her husband Fred; her brother Terry; her brother-in-law Herbert S. Key, Jr.; sister-in-law Sherrie Huston; and other beloved relatives. She is survived by her brother James E. Huston of Atlanta, Texas; her sister Betty Alice Key of Bellaire, Texas; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, March 6, 2015 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas, with Rev. Cheryl Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity, Texas. Those serving as pallbearers will be Grant Seuser, Stinson Seuser, Brad Mathis, Joe Skains, Kevin Skains, Riley Skains, Ryan Skains and Justin Skains. A special thanks to the nurses and staff of Compassionate Care Hospice of Bryan, Texas for love, care and support during Peggy’s last days.
