Mary Louise Johnston

Mary Louise Johnston began her journey to heaven on October 4, 2017, surrounded by family and extended family. Mary was born March 15, 1921, in Huntsville, Texas to Robert Edward Lee Allen and Ollie Amanda Littlefield Allen. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, Willie Allen, Edell Allen, James Edward Allen, Estelle Brown and Nora Gardner. Loving and dear husband, Kenneth Reagan Johnston passed away on April 22, 2010. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn Moore and husband David and Debbie Johnston; and son Terry Bates and wife Mary; two grandsons that she adored Larry W. Moore and Shawn Reagan and fiancé Kim Gandy; brother, Curtis Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was a loving wife and mother. There was a gentleness, kindness, unselfishness, respect and unconditional love that exuded from her. She had a unique charm. She taught her children the principals of honesty, respect and unbiased love… which were the core values of her own life. She never met a stranger… always gracious and engaging to all. She was always there to listen to our problems and give her total love and support. She gave solid unwavering advice through difficult times and there to celebrate and encourage you when you had sky splitting joys. And always… always… a big hug and kiss. She loved large or small gatherings of family, friends and extended family. She was very knowledgeable on a multitude of topics. She took great pride in her cooking and baking skills and was a great conversationalist. She loved to read, work word puzzles, play Yahtzee, crochet, knit, watch her Houston Astros (especially, Jose Altuve), cook and bake, shell pecans and peas… and definitely fish on lake Livingston. But her greatest gift was the boundless love she gave to her family and friends. She is so loved and will be so missed. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 9, 2017; funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 9, 2017 in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, Texas.
