Dorothy Mae Decker

DOROTHY MAE HYMAN DECKER Dorothy Decker, Age 84, passed away on March 20, 2015, in Huntsville, Texas, with her beloved family at her bedside. She was born on September 18, 1930, in Elmina, Texas, the youngest child of John and Bennie Hyman. Dorothy was raised and attended school in New Waverly, where she was also a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. On May 7, 1955, Father Ryan of St. Joseph’s performed the wedding ceremony of Dorothy and Peirrie Lee (Red) Decker. Dorothy and Red were married for 48 years before his death in 2003. Mrs. Decker was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all of her siblings: Lawrence (Lige) Hyman; Magdalen (Maggie) Hyman Klawinski; Joseph (Joe) Hyman; Marion Hyman; Stella Hyman Pasket; and Andrew (Andy) Hyman. What wonderful stories the Hyman brothers and sisters could tell of growing up together. Those stories involved life on the farm, childhood pranks, church bazaars, courtships, Polish weddings, World War II, the Korean War and so much more. She is survived by a son, John Decker and his wife, Debra Decker, and a daughter and her husband Carol and Mike Kilgore, all of New Waverly, Texas. Her “grands” were her special delight. They are grandchildren: Brandon and Barton Decker, Rebecca and Michael Kilgore and great-grandchildren Christopher and Catherine Decker. Numerous nieces and nephews were also loved by “Aunt Dorothy”. One sister-in-law, Vergie Decker Dotson remains to cherish Dorothy’s memory. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved the holidays and family get-togethers as well as shopping and going out to eat. Visiting with friends, old and new, in person or on the phone, was another pastime she enjoyed. The family will receive visitors at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 23, with a Rosary Service immediately following. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Decker will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Waverly on Tuesday, March 24 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Elmina Cemetery. Pallbearers are: John Decker, Brandon Decker, Barton Decker, Mike Kilgore, Joe Whitley and Robert Snoe. Honorary pallbearer is Raymond Klawinski.
