David Clarence Carey

David Clarence Carey was born February 15, 1920 in San Anselmo, California to Robert and Jessie (Symonds) Carey and he passed away November 29, 2005 in Bryan, Texas. Prior to World War II he served as a Marine Corps and in the US Navy Reserve, where he was 2nd Class Diver. During the war, he served in the South Pacific as a Chief Gunners Mate in the Navy Sebees and received three battle stars along with other commendations. After the war he went into the construction business with his brother and eventually became construction manager on projects in California, Hawaii, Washington, Nevada and Texas. While working on a traffic tunnel along the Monterey, CA waterfront he met Margi Setchel, General Manager of the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. They were married in 1969 and moved to the Huntsville area in 1974 where David was named Project Manager for Horizon Corporation on construction of Waterwood. He and Margi later owned and operated Palmetto Construction and Realty for over fifteen years. David was active in the community, serving on various boards and was Teen and Young Adult Court Judge for many years in Walker County. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Huntsville and a member of Forrest Lodge #19 A.F. & F.M. , and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Margi Carey in 2003. He is survived by; daughters Paty Kavanagh and Janet Britt, step-son Marc Hinchey and daughter-in-law Cynthia, grandchildren; Clint Janssen, Brett Janssen, Devin Kavanagh, Daphney Fumeo, Marjorie Britt, and Brianna Hinchey, great-grandchildren; Iris Mary Janssen , and Aiden Stockton, one brother Robert Carey, brother-in-law Eugene Southworth, sister-in-law June Lewis, and cousin Ron Zastrow . A memorial services will be held, Monday December 5, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Hay officiating.
